POSITION OVERVIEW

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and uphold SCBA staff’s technical skills, documentation requirements, and repair techniques. Ensure department accountability in meeting all NFPA standards regarding HFD’s self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and related equipment. Manage component inventory and make sure that all pertinent parts are in stock as needed for ongoing repairs. Administer all pertinent staff supporting activities such as, but not limited to payroll, HEAR development, contract administration, budget oversight, and all other directives as stated by direct supervisor. Liaison with pertinent vendors to ensure provision of all good and services required by HFD to maintain breathing air infrastructure. Responsible for SCBA cylinder testing as required by NFPA. This manager candidate will work under the Distribution Center Division Manager and is required to follow all directives from the DM or appointed supervisor.

This is a Houston Fire Department position at the Tier I level.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Two years of experience in building or ground maintenance are required.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
