MD Anderson Cancer Center Patient Care Technician - Post Anesthesia Care Unit in Houston, Texas

Position: Patient Care Technician (PCT)

Department: Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Shift: 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM

Accountability:

  • Utilize time efficiently by completing assigned responsibilities and checking with the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) or OR Schedule Coordinator for additional tasks when available.

  • Organize workflow to ensure on-time starts and efficient turnover of cases; utilize time, materials, supplies, and equipment efficiently.

  • Maintain stability and performance under pressure, handling crises and difficult situations with professionalism.

  • Ensure all supplies and equipment are put away after cases.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of operational costs, participate in cost-saving strategies, and avoid waste.

  • Complete annual self-appraisal and provide appropriate documentation.

Essential Performance Functions:

  • Prepare and maintain the surgical environment for assigned patients.

  • Provide direct patient care according to performance standards.

  • Clean and turn over operating rooms, preparing the environment for the next patient according to performance standards.

  • Perform patient transport and supply responsibilities as per performance standards.

  • Clean the operating room after the last case of the day and prepare it for closure following performance standards.

Initiative:

  • Pursue learning and self-development, actively seeking feedback and incorporating it into next steps.

  • Set high standards for performance and demonstrate a drive for results and achievement.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Multitask effectively and function as a team player.

  • Willingly perform additional tasks, including transporting patients, cleaning patient care areas, and disposing of trash and dirty linens.

  • Display flexibility with schedule and shifts, as needed.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
