Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Project Engineer – Ports and Marine to be based in Houston, TX to support our growing Transportation Business Line Ports and Marine Division projects. This is an excellent career opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background and looking to grow into a project leadership role.

The responsibilities of this position also include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist Project Manager by providing project or task management (design schedules and budgets), and engineering design support (engineering reports, design calculations, plans, specifications, quantity and cost estimates) for seaports, marine structural, and upland civil engineering design projects.

  • Perform professional engineering work involving the application of standard techniques, procedures, and design criteria in carrying out routine engineering tasks.

  • Excellent writing skills, including technical report writing.

  • Be responsible for the preparation and production of reports, plans, specifications and estimates.

  • Provide office support for data management, report preparation, and maintain the required AECOM-related documentation and forms.

  • Be involved in all project aspects from client meetings, design/study development and site/field visits during design and construction.

  • Capable of working independently or within (or leading) a design team

  • Supervise/Lead junior level engineers

  • Provide input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements

  • Schedules, team building, and budget management

  • Work independently and concurrently on multiple projects, maintaining project continuity, progress, and project profitability

  • Excellent communication skills with project team, regulatory agencies, and clients.

  • Ability to do occasional field work (site visits and inspections) and travel.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BS degree in Structural, Civil Engineering or Maritime Engineering from ABET accredited college or university

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in project engineering and design experience in a variety of seaport related infrastructure design such as wharves, docks, and uplands or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education

  • Professional Engineer (PE) Registration

  • Valid US Driver's License and must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years design experience in a variety of seaport related infrastructure such as container, dry bulk, and liquid bulk terminal wharves and uplands including schematic development and preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates

  • BS degree in Structural, Civil Engineering or Maritime Engineering from ABET accredited college or university, Master’s degree in Structural, Civil Engineering or Maritime Engineering would be even more desired

  • 4+ years of relevant design experience in a variety of seaport related infrastructure design such as wharves, docks, and uplands or demonstrated equivalency of experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) Registration (Texas preferred)

  • Previous and current Project engineering serving clients and projects, and detailed design experience

  • Previous experience in leading projects to required quality, timeliness, and budget parameters

  • Experienced in planning, design, and construction management

  • Public ports design project experience highly desired

  • Experience with design software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SAP2000, or STAAD Pro is a plus

  • Familiar with MS Office software (Excel, Word, Project) is needed to be successful in this position

  • Be a team player

  • Leadership skills in marketing, proposal and client development efforts

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $75,000.00 - $110,000.00.
