Position Summary
Oversees the perioperative department, directing patient appointments to maximize unit utilization, physician, and patient satisfaction. Implements and collects appropriate statistical data for use in operations and planning. Assumes overall responsibility for operations and productivity while maintaining a high degree of competency and professionalism.
Responsibilities
Position Responsibilities:
Expedites patient flow by coordinating efforts with Perioperative areas
Demonstrates control and responsibility of staffing issues; may staff a room to cover for absent nurses
Acts as a role model in the application of standards and philosophy of nursing practice
Responsible for maintaining departmental logs and records. Keeps accurate list of equipment, status and location
Maintains records of equipment maintenance, promptly reports equipment break downs and follows up on the maintenance requests
Ensures that supplies are ordered in a cost effective way
Trains new employees. Reviews and audits chart documentation in the Surgical Information System, randomly
Resolves immediate ancillary concerns; independently make quick decisions within departmental guidelines
Assumes the responsibility for hygiene and infection control and prevention for the safety and comfort of the patient
Coordinates the development, implementation and expansion of learning opportunities/skills development for all the unit staff members. Identifies needs and Implements staff education activities for use of new equipment and/or technologies.
Assesses and monitors staff competencies. Coordinates competency‐based validation of staff for unit specific procedures
Provides direction and guidance in the delivery of patient care
Provides direct patient care in patient preparation, Procedure care, and post‐operative care while in the
Perioperative Department as well as at the patient bedside
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Education and Licensure:
Associate’s Degree
Registered Nurse (RN)
Minimum Experience:
- Five (5) years supervisory or charge nurse experience
Pay Range
$36.96 - $53.60 /hour
