POSITION OVERVIEW

PURPOSE OF DIVISION

The Information Technology Division is responsible for providing and maintaining the technology infrastructure, systems, and applications that act as a force multiplier to assist the Houston Airport System in pursuing its mission and vision. The Information Technology Division is further responsible for maintaining awareness of, and then sourcing and implementing technology, as and when it emerges, to keep the Houston Airport System at the vanguard for safety, efficiency, and above all, superior customer service.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this position is to ensure the IT and Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure (hardware, software, voice and data networks, storage, servers, mobile and wired telephony) is maintained and works reliably to meet business needs by providing day-to-day operational support for existing infrastructure services and users of those services; completing highly complex technical assignments and project-based work to promote the effective use of new and existing technology; and mentoring junior infrastructure support staff.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

TECHNICAL EXPERT: Has advanced technical certifications that demonstrates mastery of a specialized infrastructure discipline. Typically participates in industry/technical users’ groups. Proactively resolves highly complex technology problems by providing expert technical advice. May serve as highest level of escalation internally. This position is routinely expected to provide guidance, technical support, and find creative solutions to a variety of business needs.

OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE: Oversees a variety of highly complex analytical and technical assignments; provides subject matter expertise and advice for assigned technology and infrastructure systems. This position plans, manages, and implements infrastructure projects and upgrades; designs and documents infrastructure processes, procedures, and standards. Ensures effectiveness of infrastructure by performing preventive maintenance work and monitoring system performance; diagnoses problems; works with external vendors and COH departments; and supports back-ups for a variety of technologies, business units, and systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS

There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management, and Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field.

Information systems-specific technical certifications may be substituted for 1 year of either the education or the experience requirement, as applicable.

Related professional Information Systems experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

At least six (6) years of technology experience supporting IT infrastructure. System-specific technical certifications required. Advanced certifications and applicable work experience beyond six (6) years may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the education requirement.

System-specific technical certifications may be considered for substitution for 1 year of experience.

A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS) or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement.

PREFERENCES

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

  • 5 years of progressive experience in deploying, managing, supporting, patching and optimizing VMware clusters.

  • 5 years of progressive experience in deploying, managing, supporting, patching and optimizing storage area networks, similar to Dell Compellent, HPE Nimble, Dell EMC Isilon, and Brocade fabrics

  • 5 years of experience in backup technologies, managing backup jobs, testing jobs and optimizing backups. Especially using Veeam backup and Replication or other major backup applications.

  • 5 years of experience managing, tuning, and auditing Microsoft Active Directory, including DNS, DHCP, DFS, and GPOs.

  • 3 years of experience with alert management, including optimizing alerts, resolving alerts and customizing alerting thresholds and alerting strategies. Preferred Solarwinds experience or other major alerting tool.

  • 3 years Azure and or AWS cloud technology experience, including networking, provisioning, load balancing, backups, troubleshooting, and designing cloud based infrastructures.
