WM Senior Manager, Project in Houston, Texas

We are seeking talented Project Management professionals to join the WM team, motivated to help us transform the way we deliver strategic HR projects. We are looking for you to leverage your skills and experience to combine project management expertise with industry best practices, aligning HR initiatives with Waste Management's business strategy.

I. Job Summary

The Senior Project Manager will lead initiatives aimed at stabilizing and enhancing our HR technology systems. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to assess current processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement effective solutions. The ideal candidate will leverage their project management expertise to ensure timely delivery, manage resources efficiently, and foster strong stakeholder relationships. Key responsibilities include monitoring project progress, addressing challenges, and ensuring that HR technology aligns with organizational goals to support a seamless employee experience.

II. Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other ancillary duties may be assigned.

  • Owns and drives all project activities through the Project Lifecycle, effectively applying various project methodologies and enforcing project standards, to ensure quality and successful on-time, on-budget delivery of their project(s).

  • Under supervision of Senior Leadership, assembles project teams, assigns individual responsibilities, develops project schedules, and determines and acquires resources needed.

  • Communicates the business case to project team to assist with decision making and prioritization; keeps business case at fore-front to drive decisions.

  • Acts as liaison between technology/business stakeholders and Senior Leadership on project status, issues and risks.

  • Creates and maintains project plans and ensures effective financial forecasting and tracking.

  • Interfaces with other technology and business organizations to reach agreement on scope, obtain resources and ensure proper preparedness.

  • Monitors processes and procedures to ensure alignment with business goals and objectives, recommending improvements and strategies.

  • Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and adherence to organizational policies and procedures

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

Will coach and mentor less experienced team members and act as team leader on more complicated systems projects.

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Computer Science, MIS, Business Administration, or similar area of study or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four years of relevant work experience.

Experience: Five years of project management experience (in addition to education requirement).

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

None required.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

Advanced knowledge or skills in one or more of the following required:

  • Expertise in project management tools and methodologies, including PMBOK, Agile and Waterfall to drive successful project outcomes.

  • Strong understanding of risk management strategies to identify and address potential delays.

  • Expertise in project scheduling and timeline management to ensure timely deliverables; proactively escalating issues when deadlines are at risk.

  • Familiarity with HR technology systems and their critical role in delivering timely employee data within organizational processes.

  • Presenting, communicating, and articulating effectively to all levels of the organization (including technical and non-technical audiences, Senior Leadership, VPs, and C-Level Executives).

  • Ability to interface with senior-level stakeholders in both Information Technology and the business units to partner on project scope, risk mitigation and issue resolution.

  • Understanding all aspects of the IT Governance and reporting.

  • Project planning and budgeting.

  • Knowledge of regulatory processes and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance.

  • Successfully leading a project team reach its business objectives within set timeframes.

  • Analytical and qualitative abilities.

Normal setting for this job is: office setting (Houston, TX)- Hybrid Schedule

The expected base pay range for this position across the U.S. is $130,000- $145,000. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
