DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Senior Staff Analyst will lead the continuous improvement and maintenance of the Advanced Infrastructure Analytics Platform (AIAP) that supports comprehensive management of the City’s wastewater infrastructure. AIAP utilizes advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI techniques to develop predictive models. This innovative platform integrates hydraulic modeling, infrastructure asset inventory and conditions, and operational and planning databases maintained by the City and other regional, state, and federal partner agencies. Staying updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices related to predictive analytics and infrastructure planning is required. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Wastewater Operations, Regulatory, and Capital Project Delivery teams to ensure the efficient delivery of Consent Decree compliance requirements.
Responsibilities:
Analyze existing analytical processes and develop sustainable, repeatable, and quantifiable improvements.
Collaborate with stakeholders to identify process improvement opportunities, conduct research, and establish standards and guidelines, with a focus on enhancing efficiency and incorporating cutting-edge technology.
Foster an understanding of the importance of analytical capabilities and work with project teams to identify improvement areas and provide effective solutions.
Evaluate current analytical activities to determine the most suitable tools and resources for team use.
Assist in creating guidance materials for teams, including documentation on new technologies, tools, and resources.
Conduct thorough evaluations of analytical processes to determine the optimal approaches to follow.
Maintain project guidelines and offer recommendations to the management team to optimize methodologies and practices.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing etc.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Management position at the Tier III Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or a field directly related to the type of work being performed.
Graduate degrees related to the type of work to be performed may substitute for the experience requirement on a year – for year basis.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Five years of professional administrative, financial or analytical experience related to the type of work being performed are required. Professional experience related to the type of work to be performed may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERENCES
Preference shall be given to candidates with education and/or experience in engineering, GIS, hydraulic modeling or other technical field.
