Overview

Kirby Corporation is hiring a Senior Tax Accountant at 55 Waugh Dr. in Houston, TX. The Senior Tax Accountant assists the Tax Director with the responsibility for all the Corporations U.S. federal, state and local tax returns being properly prepared and filedand calculating the quarterly tax provision. The Senior Tax Accountant also assists in the providing research of tax related issues and special projects. Additionally, the Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for maintaining the centralized tax basis fixed asset systemand tax depreciation.

Responsibilities

Tax Accounting and Compliance

  • Prepare various federal, state and local income tax returns and workpaper support
  • Prepare quarterly and annual tax provision workpaper support
  • Maintain and roll forward federal and state income/franchise tax accounts
  • Maintain and roll forward tax uncertainty workpaper-FIN48
  • Maintain the Corporations tax basis fixed asset ledger
  • Prepare Tax depreciation reports using the fixed assets accounting system
  • Assist in preparation of local and state property tax renditions by outside property tax consultants
  • Prepare property tax accruals for subsidiaries

Others

  • Maintain tax calendar
  • File multiple jurisdictions annual reports
  • Assist with compliance matters related to Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Special tax projects as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications Knowledge and Skill:

  • Onesource experience a plus
  • Oracle Financials experience a plus
  • Skilled at Microsoft excel a plus

Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work well with employees both inside and outside the accounting/tax department
  • Able to manage multiple tasks at same time and self-driven to meet deadlines

Education:

Undergraduate and/or Masters degree in accounting/tax required

Bachelor's or higher

Experience:

2-5 years of industry and/or public accounting tax compliance experience

Special Requirements:

CPA/CPA Candidate
