Robert Half Staff Accountant in Houston, Texas

Description

We are seeking a Staff Accountant in the retail industry to join our team in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining financial records and ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded. Your work will involve reviewing daily banking activities, preparing journal entries, assisting senior accountants, and performing regular communication with other corporate departments.

Responsibilities:

• Review daily banking activity and ensure all transactions are correctly coded, entered, and reconciled in the system.

• Prepare Medical activity, premiums, and reserve journal entries and reconciliations.

• Prepare and reconcile payroll entries.

• Assist Senior Accountant in research and ensuring inquiries have been responded to correctly and in a timely manner.

• Review, code, and post activity in third-party systems to the general ledger.

• Prepare various journal entries into the Company’s general ledgers.

• Monitor specific Corporate Accounting email inboxes, manage inquiries, prioritize tasks, reroute inquiries to the appropriate Corporate Accounting personnel, and archive emails and documents into the appropriate folders.

• Prepare monthly account reconciliations and summary reports.

• Ensure compliance with established SOX controls.

• Assist with the preparation of audit schedules and PBCs.

• Participate in special and ad-hoc projects as needed.

Requirements

• Applicant must possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in the role of Staff Accountant or a similar role within the retail industry.

• Proficiency in managing Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) is necessary.

• Experience in performing Bank Reconciliations is required.

• Applicant must have a solid understanding and experience of working with General Ledger.

• Familiarity with Month End Close procedures is a must.

• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team required.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize responsibilities.
