DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Health Department (HHD) is seeking a talented & hardworking Training Coordinator to plan, coordinate, and oversee personnel training and staff development programs for department employees. Determines & analyzes training needs for employees, supervisors, and managers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
Determines training policies and procedures.
Confers with management and supervisory personnel to assess training needs.
Formulates and develops plans, procedures, and programs to meet training needs and problems.
Organizes and develops training manuals, reference libraries, testing and evaluation procedures, multimedia visual aids and other educational materials.
May supervise a staff position assisting in the routine operations of the office, i.e., filing, typing answering phones, etc.
Evaluates and coordinates training courses offered by community colleges, the public school system, and other agencies.
Maintains a record of training programs and attended by department employees.
Maintains contacts with other companies, training organizations and associations for the purpose of keeping abreast of new training developments.
Conducts conferences to acquaint management with new programs and their objectives.
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Personnel Management or a related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four (4) years of professional personnel experience involving training in a formal classroom and or the development of curriculum and lesson plans for adult learners are required
Pertinent training experience at the professional level may be substituted for the above educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
2-4 years’ experience in project planning and development.
2-4 years’ experience gathering, compiling and analyzing data, producing information. and interpreting results to create reports and training plans.
2-4 years’ experience researching best practices and evidence-based programs.
2-4 years’ experience of Intermediate Level Microsoft Excel.
GENERAL INFORMATION

Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
