This position will provide technical leadership and systems engineering and integration support to the Technical Management Branch/(EV71) in support of the Spacecraft/Payload Integration and Evolution (SPIE) Element Office and the SPIE Lead Systems Engineer (LSE). Specific support to be provided includes, but is not limited to, the following: Coordinate and interface with SPIE project team personnel, MSFC Engineering organizations (Branches, Divisions, and Departments), personnel at other NASA Centers and Agencies, technical/discipline leads, SPIE Prime Contractors, and other stakeholder project teams and personnel. Provide leadership and/or support for the development of key systems engineering products for Program/Project/Elements, support program/project milestones, and subsequent activities where these products are assessed and matured. Develop programmatic processes, plans, and systems engineering documentation required to administer technical and milestone reviews. Lead, coordinate, or participate in SPIE Element milestone reviews. Provide support for setup, training, administration, tracking of review item discrepancies (RIDs), RID burn down analysis, reporting, and facilitating completion of milestone reviews. Serve as a Change Package Engineer for SPIE documentation and/or serve as a reviewer for changes to Program/Project/Element documents. Provide systems engineering support to the SPIE Sub-elements, including the Payload Adapter (PLA), Universal Stage Adapter (USA), and Orion Stage Adapter (OSA) as well as to the Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) Element. Provide technical leadership and guidance to aid in the development of systems and operational engineering activities and products to support the SPIE element design, development, test, and integration efforts. Collaborate with technical leads, including the SPIE Lead Systems Engineer, to develop planning, execution, and integration of multi-discipline analysis. Provide support, expertise, trade studies, assessments, independent analysis and recommendations as necessary to areas including, but not limited to, systems engineering processes, systems engineering and technical and management questions, issues, risks affecting the performance and management processes. Lead/participate in task teams, working groups, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), conferences, and training.

Job Requirements: A degree in aerospace, mechanical, systems or a related engineering field or discipline is required. A degree from an ABET accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS with at least 15 years of experience, or a masters with at least 13 years of relevant experience.

Required: Familiarity with the systems engineering life cycle end-to-end development ranging from requirements development, functional design, hardware integration, requirement verification, and flight readiness that ultimately lead to flight hardware certification. Knowledge of the development and documentation of requirements, processes, and/or procedures associated with aerospace flight and ground hardware design, development, production, test, verification, evaluation, integration, and/or operations. Ability to interface and collaborate with all levels of engineering and project management?with the ability to lead and influence for consensus. Familiarity with launch/operations simulations as well as day-of-launch procedures and console support. Self-direction, flexibility, and skill as a team player, familiar with working in a dynamic work environment. Demonstrated experience developing and delivering project briefings. Experience negotiating and collaborating to resolve complex technical problems and breaking down complex problems or issues into manageable pieces. Excellent written and oral technical communication skills, with the ability to clearly define and describe a technical subject to peers across various engineering discipline . Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook). Desired qualifications and experience (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as a selection factor): An understanding and knowledge of the current SLS program. Knowledge related to the SPIE hardware, including the Payload Adapter (PLA) ,Universal Stage Adapter (USA), and Orion Stage Adapter (OSA). Working understanding of the SPIE interfaces and sub-elements, as well as SPIE interfaces with other SLS Elements. Familiarity with NASA Systems Engineering policies and procedures related to technical management. Experience with leading/coordinating project lifecycle reviews.
