Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal/ Sr Principal Software Quality Engineer . This position will be located in Huntsville, Alabama .
The ideal candidate will be a high-caliber individual with an experienced background in software mission assurance, software quality, test witnessing, configuration management or audit compliance of software programs. This role will revolve around monitoring, auditing, and ensuring software product development compliance to contractual requirements, company standards of excellence, and customer satisfaction.
The individual should have a strong understanding of software development life cycles that align with the Agile methodology, experience in software compliance audits and root cause corrective actions and hold a detail-oriented approach to identify noncompliance and risks throughout the software development life cycle.
Excellent people and technical skills are required to coordinate with subcontractors, various subsystems and interact with management to conduct audits and implement corrective actions. He/she will implement software mission assurance as an integrated part of the DS Mission Assurance Organization while working with various other teams and functions to identify and resolve process and product compliance issues.
Job Responsibilities
Review and extract quality assurance requirements from documentation
Establish, implement, and maintain a software mission assurance plan and practices used to ensure products and tools conform to company standards of excellence
Support tailoring and implementation of the Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures including performing internal compliance audits and bring non-conformances to resolution
Interpret customer technical, software, and mission assurance requirements and ensure those requirements are integrated into program plans, specifications, and product documents
Ensure program contract requirements are flowed down internally and to subcontractors
Interface with software subcontractors in the verification of product design, quality, and reliability
Ensure compliance with contract program, quality, organizational, and industry alert requirements
Provide oversight in discrepancy review and software failure investigations as well as root cause and corrective action determinations. Analyze and interpret trends and execute improvements on key metrics
Perform Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) analysis and Problem-Solving activities on program-specific deficiencies
Represent Software Mission Assurance at various program reviews and review boards that may include but are not limited to Software Review Board (SRB), Configuration Control Board (CCB), Failure Review Board (FRB), Program Management Reviews (PMR), Safety Review Board (SRB), Software Peer Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), and Corrective Action Board (CAB)
Ensure Software Risk Management activities are executed according to standards and procedures
Provide Supply Chain Management support for product procurement including resolution of requirements exceptions form offers/suppliers, Subcontractor Data Requirements (SDRL) reviews, supplier audits, and inspections
Witness software build testing, qualification, and Integration and Test
Provide Lab support and lab verification in preparation for software testing
Develop and deliver metrics and reports as needed
Basic Qualifications:
Principal Software Quality Engineer
5 years of experience with a Bachelors in a STEM field (ideally Engineering;) or 3 years of experience with a Masters; 1 year of experience with PHD
3 years’ experience in a Software Mission Assurance field or 5+ years of experience in related field such as systems engineering, software development, or software configuration management while holding a strong quality mindset
Able to read documentation such as contractual standards, program plans, statement of work, requirements, software specs, test plans/procedures and software test reports. Individual should be able to interpret requirements for testability and clarity, software escapes, develop audit plans, and identify critical software non-conformances
Application of technical expertise including complete understanding of software assurance fundamental engineering principles, practices, and theories
Experience with ISO9001, or AS9100 industry standards
Knowledge of Root Cause and Corrective Action process and tools
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DOD Security Clearance.
Must be able to work on-site in Huntsville, Alabama
Sr Principal Software Quality Engineer
8 years of experience with a Bachelors in a STEM field (ideally Engineering;) or 6 years of experience with a Masters; or a 4 years of experience PhD
5 years’ experience in a Software Mission Assurance field or 7+ years of experience in related field such as systems engineering, software development, or software configuration management while holding a strong quality mindset
Able to read documentation such as contractual standards, program plans, statement of work, requirements, software specs, test plans/procedures and software test reports. Individual should be able to interpret requirements for testability and clarity, software escapes, develop audit plans, and identify critical software non-conformances
Application of technical expertise including complete understanding of software assurance fundamental engineering principles, practices, and theories
Experience with ISO9001, or AS9100 industry standards
Knowledge of Root Cause and Corrective Action process and tools

Preferred Skills
Able to read and understand Software Code (C++, Java, Python)
Ability to understand and work with multiple enterprise-wide systems and software problem tracking tools (e.g., SAP, DOORs, Jira, Confluence)
Experience with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology
Experience with source code analysis tools, i.e. Fortify
Dedicated to teamwork and be able to work very well in a team environment
ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 trained auditor
Advanced Excel skills
Certified Software Quality Engineer (ASQ)
Experience working with military or government contracts
Salary Range: $95,800 - $143,600
Salary Range 2: $119,200 - $178,800
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
