Senior Content Writer

Job Description:

At Sage, content writers and content designers play a critical role in delivering clear and

compelling content for target audiences. They work with the Experience Design (XD)

community, product management, product marketing, engineering, quality assurance,

customer support, and learning teams.

Sage is seeking a Senior Content Writer to create and manage digital product documentation

and content design activities across 2-3 products in the Small Business segment. Ideally you

will be based in North America.

For this role, you will join a small team of passionate and talented content professionals and

work within larger multi-disciplinary product teams in Agile development environments. Your

primary responsibility will be technical authoring, though the role also includes some content

design.

You will:

• Lead on delivering high-quality, accurate digital content for 2-3 products, adapting best

practices and devising novel solutions for the team.

• Plan and develop digital content throughout the delivery cycle that makes it easy for

customers to use our products. This will include in-app content, digital product

guidance and What’s New guides.

• Strategise with product management and other stakeholders on prioritisation and

visualise how to build and maximise the effectiveness of our digital content.

• Use customer research and analytics to inform your strategy, writing, and to improve

content for our products, both in the user interface (UI) and product documentation.

• Measure content effectiveness and iterate based on data.

• Work to solve content challenges, support others, coaching and mentoring as needed.

• Balance business objectives with customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Content Writer at Sage, you will possess a combination of technical writing and UX

writing skills and have a strong understanding of user-centered design.

For this role, your responsibilities will include:

Technical writing

• Work with the project teams and subject matter experts (SMEs) to plan and write

customer-facing digital product documentation for releases.

• Use customer data and analytics to create metadata to ensure accurate search results

for help content.

• Co-ordinate with SMEs and write What's New guides (tax updates and release notes),

Pendo messaging, carousel content, tracking sheets, and connected services content.

• Deploy release notes and help content.

• Provide content that guides first-time and expert users to success.

• Manage localisation and collaborate with translators on UI content, help content, and

What's New guides.

• Engage with and support Product Engineering and Customer Services teams.

Content design

• UX writing, crafting accessible and compelling in-app microcopy.

• Collaborate with the UX designer to create prototypes and design user interface for

releases.

• Work with the UX designer to support user research activities and propose and

implement content design updates, as needed.

• Review content and manage content updates directly in code, collaborating with

developers.

• Develop templates, process, and style guidelines, as needed.

• Support the coaching, mentoring, and training of junior colleagues, as needed.

Skills and experience

• Strong understanding of user-centered design.

• Laser-focus on the customer experience.

• Experience using evidence, data and research to make content decisions across the

end-to-end user journey.

• Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

• Excited about technical writing, creating accessible content, and great microcopy.

• Expertise with help authoring tools such as MadCap Flare.

• Experience with design tools such as Figma.

• Knowledge of Agile methodologies, including tools such as Jira.

• Working knowledge of HTML, GitHub and Perforce is desirable.
