Serco Security Engineer - (100% Remote/Mid West) in Illinois

The Security Engineer is a member of the corporate information security team that will assist with threat monitoring, detection, event analysis, and incident reporting. In executing this position, you would be focused on detecting and mitigating cyber threats. The Security Engineer has the responsibility to provide oversight on the effectiveness of information security controls within the environment to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Serco’s information assets. To be the ideal candidate, you would demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of information security principles, critical thinking skills, team-oriented approach to security initiatives, and your professional history as a self-starting problem solver.

This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance

In this role you will:

  • Be responsible for managing and configuring Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Purview Compliance security solutions across an organization including monitoring for threats, responding to security alerts, implementing security policies, classify data, set retention policies, manage data loss prevention (DLP), and monitor data access to mitigate risks, and ensuring the overall health of the Defender and Purview platforms to protect against cyberattacks.

  • Utilize platforms such as Microsoft, Red Hat, Sentinel, Splunk, Tenable, CyberArk and other security tools.

  • Configure and implement security tools in accordance with industry best practices and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidelines.

  • Perform vulnerability, configuration, and compliance assessments.

  • Analyze data and recommend changes to security policies, procedures, and controls.

  • Assist and educate users on security procedures.

  • Conduct independent research to stay current with the latest security issues to reduce the likelihood of incidents.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance or successfully completed a suitability determination to hold a DoD TS Clearance

  • U.S Citizenship Required

  • A Bachelors Degree

  • Minimum 5 years of of security engineering and operations experience in any of the following areas;

  • cloud security, endpoint protection, identity management, application security, security event analysis, vulnerability management, and/or incident response

  • Expertise in Microsoft Defender suite (Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Office 365, Defender for Cloud Apps)

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts like threat analysis, vulnerability management, incident response

  • Experience with security log analysis and SIEM tools

  • Knowledge of network protocols and security best practices

  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and effectively communicate security concerns

  • Deep understanding of data privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, etc.)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Purview compliance portal and its functionalities

  • Experience with data classification, retention policies, and DLP configurations

  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 services like Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address compliance risks

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance

  • Governance, risk, and compliance experience in audits, business continuity, control implementation, control assessments, the application of the NIST Risk Management Framework and/or the application of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.
