Role Overview:

This position acts in the role of Audiologist for the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education and provides audiological services to children ages birth through school exit. The audiologist in this position acts as a point of contact for the provision of technical assistance and support throughout the state. The audiologist in this position is expected to possess or obtain Indiana Audiology Licensure and Indiana First Steps credentialing and become a provider for the Hearing Aid Assistance Program of Indiana (HAAPI). This position will work as a leader in Indiana along with other State-employed staff members, including Educational Consultants and Early Interventionists, to enhance the likelihood of successful outcomes for children/students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $62,218.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Administer and interpret audiometric results from auditory thresholds.

  • Provide direct audiological therapy services for the habilitation/rehabilitation of patients.

  • Develop specific therapy objectives for selected patients with hearing loss.

  • Determine the need, and makes referral, for acquisition of comprehensive diagnostic studies of auditory related communication disorders including medical, neurological, psychological and speech and language assessments.

  • Serve as in-service resource person to the interdisciplinary team and other direct/indirect care staff on audiological related topics.

  • Assist in the installation and maintenance of materials and equipment utilized for audiological services.

  • Evaluate the benefits of personal amplification for the patient.

  • Troubleshoot minor issues with hearing aids and other amplification devices.

  • Some essential functions of this position may be performed onsite at the agency’s worksite or other assigned worksites while some essential functions of this position may be eligible for work from home authorization in accordance with policy. Remote work authorization is not automatic and is dependent upon operational needs and agency approval.

    This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

  • Extensive knowledge of the factors that constitute or contribute to hearing loss and its relationship to communication in children and adults.

  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of the relationship between organic systemic disease as it relates to the function of the ear.

  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of the patterns of social and cultural diversity that affect communication processes.

  • Considerable knowledge of the code of ethics that governs audiology services and practices.

  • Ability to manage a wide variety of conditions, particularly as they relate to auditory function and communication.

  • Ability to determine the nature and severity of auditory disorders through the comprehensive use of electrophysiologic and behavioral assessment measures.

  • Ability to plan therapy intervention program involving an interdisciplinary team that will best meet patients’ audiological needs.

  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
