This position is in the Equipment Development Group (EDG), which is part of the Engineering Services organization of the Global Facilities Management & Engineering Services (GFM&ES) group. The mission of EDG is to provide innovative custom automated engineering and equipment solutions in support of the strategies of our customers across the global Eli Lilly research, and manufacturing sites. We integrate new and established technologies both internally and by facilitating external suppliers to create world-class solutions for a wide variety of technical challenges.

This position will provide electrical engineering and automation support to the Equipment Development Group business. The EDG Automation Engineer position requires creativity and innovation in problem-solving, electronic systems design, software architecture, and coding. The successful candidate will be accomplished in automated systems design and programming utilizing Allen-Bradley PLC controllers, ladder logic development tools, Microsoft operating systems, and the Microsoft family of developer’s packages with an emphasis on Visual Basic and/or Visual C#.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Actively participate in design and project teams to collaboratively develop and deliver innovative automated solutions

  • Responsible for review and development of project requirements, ensuring accurate integration into the design of the automated machines

  • Creation of electrical system design and architecture

  • Software design, coding, and debug

  • Creation of design-related documents such as Functional Design Specifications, Software and hardware Specifications, Vision Design Specifications, and User Manuals

  • Participation and execution of Factory Acceptance Testing

  • Creation of machine safety reports

  • Participation in or leading safety initiatives

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field

Additional Preferences:

  • Proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLC RS Logix programming

  • Proficiency with Allen-Bradley FactoryTalk view HMI programming environment

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Visual Basic and/or Visual C# and/or Python

  • Proficiency with Machine Vision applications

  • Experience with Fanuc and Staubli simulation and robot programming

  • Experience with database development

  • Experience with Computer System Validation

  • Experience with S afety I ntegrity S oftware T ool for the E valuation of M achine A pplications (SISTEMA)

  • UL 508A Manufacturer Technical Representative (MTR) certification

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or related software

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills

  • Strong collaborative skill

Other Information:

  • 15% Travel required with some international

  • Not a remote position
