Robert Half Director of Mortgage Underwriting & Compliance in Indianapolis, Indiana

Description

The Director will assist Senior Management in developing and administering underwriting and compliance programs, and will serve as the primary administrator for the Encompass loan origination system (LOS) and Mortgage Electronic Registration System (MERS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day mortgage underwriting and compliance with regulations.

  • Manage internal and external compliance reviews.

  • Maintain and enhance the Encompass LOS system.

  • Ensure alignment of mortgage quality control with organizational goals.

  • Provide compliance training and technical guidance to staff.

  • Consult on new and existing loan products and risk management.

  • Approve, modify, or decline mortgage loan requests and communicate decisions.

  • Evaluate borrower creditworthiness and review loan documentation for accuracy.

  • Prepare files for closing and conduct post-closing reviews.

  • Manage relationships with vendors and third-party auditors.

  • Participate in strategic planning and special projects.

    Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Equivalent experience also will be considered.

Minimum of five years of experience in underwriting residential loans in a fast-paced production environment.

Thorough understanding of FNMA/FHLMC, FHA/VA and Non-Conforming underwriting guidelines.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (word, excel, Access, outlook) and Encompass 360.

Thorough understanding of mortgage loan origination, processing, closing, shipping, and the secondary market.

Specialized training in property evaluation, tax return evaluation and underwriting a self-employed borrower is preferred.

Thorough understanding of consumer-lending statutes (Reg B, Reg Z, Reg X, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Housing Act)

In-depth experience working with automated underwriting.

Detailed knowledge of an integrated mortgage compliance system.
