Defense Finance and Accounting Service LEAD HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (CLASSIFICATION) in Indianapolis, Indiana

Summary Who may apply: Current, permanent DFAS employees in the competitive service and current DFAS VRA employees in the local commuting area and eligible DoD PPP Military Spouse preference applicants. Responsibilities Serves as a team lead in the Human Resources Position Management and Classification Division; distributing, and balancing workload and tasks, ensuring accurate timely accomplishment of the assigned workload. Processes the full range of classification-related personnel transactions to include recruit/fill requests, individual actions (e.g., promotions, details, awards, separations) and mass change project s such as mass realignment actions. Receives requests for personnel actions and examines supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness and propriety of the action. Informs specialists of discrepancies and provides technical assistance for resolution. Receives telephone and written inquiries concerning personnel actions. Provides technical assistance to customers and internal staff on a variety of processing issues and questions. Leads, trains and reviews work of staff responsible for the processing of classification related personnel transactions and other automated work products; updates supervisor on work performance and suggests training opportunities. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized experience is defined as providing administrative or technical support involving employment or compensation records to include updating and verifying employment or position data or records in an automated system, assessing basic system or procedural issues related to the processing or auditing of a variety of personnel or payroll actions or records; and applying problem-solving skills in order to assess and resolve customer inquiries regarding basic employment or compensation related processes or procedures impacting personnel data, appointments, compensation or benefits. Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-05 or higher grade in Federal Service. You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement. Education GS-06 Substitution of Education for Experience: Six months of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html). Additional Information Moving expenses will not be paid. Telework availability will be based upon the mission requirements and supervisory determination.
