Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated MDO Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating comprehensive and competitive proposals from a manufacturing, depot, and logistics viewpoint, focusing on accurate cost estimating, collaborating to assess capacity inputs, developing efficient manufacturing plans, and driving/influencing upstream processes to ensure alignment with project requirements. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong communication skills to ensure that proposals meet both customer needs and internal capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimation: Analyze project requirements and develop detailed cost estimates, including materials, labor, and overhead, to ensure accurate and competitive pricing.

  • Scheduling Collaboration: Work closely with the scheduling team to assess current and future capacity inputs, ensuring that project timelines align with manufacturing capabilities and resources.

  • Manufacturing Plan Development: Develop comprehensive manufacturing plans that account for production processes, material flow, and quality requirements to meet project deliverables efficiently.

  • Upstream Influence: Proactively collaborate with design, engineering, and procurement teams to influence upstream decisions, ensuring that designs and material selections align with manufacturing capabilities and cost constraints.

  • Risk Analysis: Identify and assess risks associated with project proposals, providing recommendations for mitigation strategies to stakeholders.

  • Cross-functional Communication: Serve as a key liaison between the proposal, manufacturing, scheduling, and engineering teams to ensure clear communication and alignment across departments.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for all estimates, plans, and capacity analyses, providing regular reports to management on proposal progress and risks.

  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in post-project reviews to analyze performance against estimates and schedules, recommending improvements for future proposals and planning processes.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in cost estimating, manufacturing planning, or a related role.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, capacity planning, and supply chain management.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive upstream improvements.

  • Proficiency in project management software, ERP systems, and scheduling tools.

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple proposals simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Previous experience in a proposal, project management, or planning role in a technical environment.
