Job Description

AbbVie is looking for a Lab Test Engineer to join our Product Development Science and Technology (PDS&T), Engineering Test team in Irvine, CA. This individual will contribute to the development and launch of exciting new drug/device combination products, with a focus on Eye Care and Aesthetics.

The PDS&T Engineer will serve as technical expert that will independently investigate, identify, develop and optimize new test methods/techniques to address critical project needs. Continuously seek to improve existing laboratory methods and processes. Read and adapt literature to accomplish assignments. Demonstrate mastery of broad range of experimental techniques and methods of data analysis.

The position is based in Irvine, CA, US. Travel may be required, as necessary (up to 10%).

Responsibilities:

  • Independently design, execute and interpret critical tests to answer scientific questions.

  • Highly autonomous and productive in performing experimental research or test method development, requiring only minimal direction from or interaction with supervisor.

  • Understand the broad objectives of the project as well as their role in achieving those objectives, and modify experimental plan when required, to respond.

  • Learn, understand and master new experimental techniques, and act as a resource or mentor for others.

  • Innovate and implement new experimental protocols.

  • Demonstrates high proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies, in his/her projects as well as the overall program, while maintaining a high level of productivity in the lab.

  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug compounds, and GxP compliance.

  • Set and meet experimental timelines.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A degree in an engineering field (mechanical, materials, chemical engineering, bioengineering): BS or equivalent education and extensive, typically 7+ years of experience; MS or equivalent education with typically 5+ years of experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.

  • General understanding of the safety requirements for the lab-based activities.

  • Ability to multitask and work within timelines.

  • Adept experience with tooling and test fixture design.

  • Experience with work in the regulated environment desired, developing test tools and test methods conforming to industry standards.

  • Demonstrated experience of good documentation practice (GDP) and good laboratory practice (GLP) essential.

  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • V&V testing experience

  • Test method development/validation

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Ability to develop and execute design verification and validation plans, protocols, data processing, and test reports.

  • Fixture design – CAD/SolidWorks.

  • A team attitude with a positive outlook is a must.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.   • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​

Salary: $80,500 - $153,000
