Ford Motor Company Student Worker Program - High Voltage Electrical Distribution Systems Design Engineer in Irvine, California

Join our Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) team for a 6-month Student Worker Program and help build the future of mobility! Immerse yourself in Ford's center of innovation and growth, working alongside top engineering, design, and software talent to create groundbreaking EVs and contribute to key technologies like batteries, charging, and recycling. The HV EDS (Electrical Distribution Systems) Design Engineer will be responsible for vehicle side electrical wire harness design and integration. You will Conceptualize, Design, Engineer, Develop and support the launch of EDS designs for next generation Model e products.

This is a 6 month program

What you’ll be able to do:

  • Design High voltage electrical Distribution Systems (Wire Harnesses) and components using 3D-2D CAD tools for FORD Advance EV projects.

  • Participate in system design reviews.

  • Formulate test plans to ensure component level performance.

  • Automation on ECAD-MCAD Design tools (CAPITAL & 3DX)

  • Hands-on prototyping and debugging of development vehicles.

  • Develop and maintain detailed design documentation, including CAD models, drawings, and specifications.

  • Research, test, and implement new materials for high voltage conductors and components taking into consideration, cost optimization, mechanical properties, thermal properties, and environmental factors.

The minimum requirements we seek:

  • Current undergrad or graduate student or new grad in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Math, Materials Engineering, related field)

  • Strong ability to use data and analysis to make fast data-driven decisions.

  • Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals even with partial information. Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals (principals’ problem solving.)

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C, C++, R, etc.)

  • Strong cross-functional leadership and technical communication skills

  • Proficiency in at least one 3D CAD program (3DX preferred)

  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for cost (DFC) principles.
