Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.As a part of the Campus Life Enterprise group, the Conference and Event Services (CES) supports the planning and execution of high-volume conferences and special on-campus events, ranging from small meetings to large university-wide events. This team is driven by a passion for attention to detail, providing an excellent guest and user experience, and working collaboratively with a very broad range of university constituents to ensure operational coordination and delivery.

The Accounting Support Coordinator, serving as the liaison to SCL's business services, will be responsible for providing direct support for all accounting and financial transactions needed in the functional area as well as provide daily administrative support in collaboration with the Office Manager and Executive Director of Conference and Event Services. This includes assisting Conference Planners in processing and creating conference/event bills for over 120+ events annually as well as ensuring payments are received for but not limited to conferences, registrations, deposits, and miscellaneous payments made to Conference and Event Services. The Accounting Support Coordinator will support the department in processing needed documentation for external vendor payments, internal department transfers, register reconciliation, and will review monthly financial reports, reconcile all CES accounts, and provide explanations for unusual transactions. Additionally, this role will regularly respond to and provide information to our customers about CES services including conferences, campus events, weddings, commencement housing and summer programs.


A successful Accounting Support Coordinator will:

  • Display a strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and navigate complex issues.
  • Regularly utilize strong organizational skills to work efficiently, and prioritize appropriately, in a fast-paced, shared office environment with frequent interruptions and changing business dynamics.
  • Consistently set good examples of professional discretion, confidentiality, diplomacy, independent judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Remain flexible and support all areas within Conference and Event Services as work fluctuates and short-term support may be needed.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with technology including office online tools and continue to seek growth opportunities and utilize acquired skills quickly.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree with at least 2 years experience in an accounting/business-related field
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Knowledge or familiarity with Cornell University accounting systems

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is located in Ithaca, New York. Night and weekend shifts are required, as needed, to assist with high-profile, scheduled events (Commencement, Reunions, Family Weekend, and Move-in, etc.)The successful applicant will be expected to work on campus.
