Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Night Shift Manufacturing Engineering Manager 2 to manage one of our production engineering teams in our Aerospace Structures Business Unit (ASBU). Come join our leadership team of dedicated, diverse individuals based out of our Iuka, Mississippi facility. Due to the nature of this role, an on-site presence is required and cannot be performed remotely.

The Engineering Manager 2 reports to the Senior Production Engineering Manager and manages specific engineering activities across the business portfolio which includes support for the complex assembly operations. The Manger will lead a diverse team that supports ongoing production and development programs, and their associated build preparations, activity, and proposal efforts.

The Engineering Manager 2 will lead, coach, and direct other engineers to accomplish project deliverables and strategic objectives, drive timely decision making, and develop a highly talented team. The ideal candidate will be able to work individually as well as collaborate with a diverse group of individuals, work tactically, but with an eye towards future strategy, and exhibit solid communication skills while acting as the technical representative voice for Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • This manager will be leading a team of approximately 5-15 exempt engineers and analysts.

  • Ensure hiring plans, staff development, and workload plans are aligned to overall capability and capacity strategy. Manage team budgets, schedules, and resources to effectively meet business goals.

  • Set and promote high standards for safety and quality. Maintains selected engineering processes and drive technical excellence by ensuring team output meets technical standards.

  • As a front facing representative to our customers the candidate must be able to communicate, brief and present deliverables at program technical reviews, proposal reviews, or other technical meetings.

  • Presents work products at program reviews, proposals, or other project meetings.

  • Acts as a technical interface to external customers, and forms working relationships with representatives of external technical organizations.

  • Lead performance and compensation management activities for team members.

  • Prepare, review, and approve cost estimates and written technical proposals. Manage cost and schedule for independent research or process improvement projects assigned to your team.

  • Advise stakeholders and team members on how to meet established schedules or resolve technical issues.

  • Ensure team members are familiar with and use required engineering processes, procedures, and tools.

  • Create new and modify existing assembly/ manufacturing instructions with necessary operations to support build sequence, while also including specifications/quality requirements and maintaining a bill of material (BOM)

  • Provide guidance to Design Engineering during drawing reviews regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques; and to identify any manufacturability challenges or changes required ahead of drawing release.

  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations and engineering specifications. You will also drive the team to support the production floor in a liaison role. These activities include answering assist calls from technicians, processing of MRB tags, performing root cause corrective action, and be responsive to keep production moving

  • Investigate and initiate corrective action to ensure product quality; resolve quality issues that arise during the build process to ensure all parts conform to the design configuration.

  • Develop tooling / fixtures to conduct the operations steps and to serve as manufacturing aids for technicians.

  • Provide results that are innovative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in and 5 years of engineering experience, OR Master’s degree and 2 years of engineering experience.

  • 2 years of leading teams or projects.

  • Able to travel domestically up to 10% of the time

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (US Citizenship required).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM)

  • Active in-scope DOD Secret security clearance that has been granted / renewed within the past 5 years.

  • 5 years of experience in leading, developing, and reviewing team members

  • Experience with supporting production programs, including experience with production process and variation control methods and techniques.

  • Experience with AS9100/ISO 9001

  • Six Sigma/Lean experience

  • Project management experience

Salary Range: $113,000 - $169,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
