Landscape Technician

(Year-round Part-Time Position - 18 Hours Per Week)

SALARY:

This part-time position will pay $17.00 - $19.00 per hour.

Primary Purpose

The Landscape Technician is responsible for, under the general direction of the Manager of Facilities and Grounds, maintaining the outside appearance of the grounds for the main campus and the Medical Office Building. This includes maintaining lawns, trees, hedges, plants and keeping sidewalk and other areas neat and clear of debris.

Essential Job Functions

  • Mowing, edging and fertilizing lawns.

  • Weeding and mulching landscape beds.

  • Trimming small trees, hedges, and shrubs.

  • Removing unwanted, dead, or damaged trees and plants.

  • Planting shrubs, flowers, and trees.

  • Watering lawns and landscapes.

  • Monitoring and maintaining plant health.

  • Report safety issues and property damage to supervisor.

  • Report and return lost property.

  • Maintain a positive relationship with employees, students, tenants, and guests.

  • Assist Facilities Technicians with set-ups and take-downs when needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Assist administration, faculty and staff in special projects as needed under the direction of the Facilities Manager.

  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders of various heights.

  • Ability to operate power machinery such as riding lawn mower, push mower, weed trimmer, edger, hedge trimmer, blower and other various landscaping equipment.

  • Ability to clear walking paths of the occasional snowstorm and apply ice melt when needed.

  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to work on uneven surfaces.

  • Ability to read, write and speak English.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma

  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in landscaping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in landscaping.
