Large Utility has an immediate need in Jackson, MI for a Data Analyst. This role involves ensuring accurate and timely data entry, validating and maintaining data integrity, performing financial verification and analysis, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and collaborating with various teams to improve financial processes and reporting. responsibilities:

  • Ensure appropriate turnaround time on all data entry requests

  • Validate accuracy of field documentation submittals

  • Review and enter data information into appropriate databases

  • Identify, monitor, and update existing data sets when required

  • Build and maintain reporting to provide teams with line of sight to concerns

  • strong communication skills to work with various groups to ensure quality and integrity of data

  • Ability to identify and problem solve for gaps, to minimize risk

  • Comply with security requirements to ensure the safety of data storage

  • Organize, prioritize, and follow through with identified projects

  • strong attention to detail

  • Verify financial activities to ensure accurate financial distribution according to general and FERC accounting principles

  • Review and prioritize projects for financial close out

  • Review actuals for projects according to policies and procedures issued by various regulatory bodies

  • Project accounting - interface with Enterprise Project Management "EPM" - Project Controls, Engineers and Project Managers to determine final assets to be recorded.

  • Analyze, interpret and verify financial documents and reports; make corrections and update as necessary*

  • Budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring actuals for assigned financial activities for O&M according to policies and procedures issued by various regulatory bodies

  • Interface with Departments Managers & Leads to determine and review budget, forecasts, cashflow projections, variances, identify budget risks and gap analysis. Work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality "Internal Customer Service".

  • Month-end close process including accruals, journal entries and variance explanations

  • Support the development and implementation of standardization of financial work processes, continuous improvement by automating and leveraging technology, implement inventory optimization strategy and process protocol across Engineering to support the Company's strategic goals.

Skills:

  • Additional industry certifications, and previous job experience is helpful. An data analyst must have advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and risk-management software.

  • They must have strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities needed to conduct accurate assessments.

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills are needed to create reports and presentations on a regular basis.

Education: A bachelor's degree is needed for this position, degree in accounting/finance would be nice to have.
