Responsibilities

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician assistant in the Department of Critical Care will care for patients in a variety of ICU service lines including Cardiothoracic/Transplant ICU, Neuroscience ICU and Abdominal Transplant/Surgical ICU.

The APPs rotate between all three of these service lines, the specific area the APP will be assigned to will vary based on department needs.

  • The Cardiothoracic ICU involves caring for patients requiring mechanical circulatory support including ECMO and Impella, pre and post heart and lung transplant and post cardiothoracic surgery.

  • The Neuroscience ICU involves care for patients with ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, neurology patients requiring ICU care and post neurosurgical procedures.

  • The abdominal transplant ICU involves care of patients pre and post liver and kidney transplant and any other surgical patient requiring ICU care post-operatively.

  • The critical care NP or PA will perform critical care procedures per hospital credentialing policy.

Qualifications

Will consider new grads with ICU nursing or rotations experience.

Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current FL RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP, ANP, ACNP.

Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the FL State Board of Medical Practice.

Additional Qualifications:

BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross and DEA registration required.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess strong computer skills. Must be flexible and willing to handle extended hours and on-call responsibilities (evenings, weekends, and holidays) if need arises in department.

Schedule Details

The Critical Care APP position includes day, night and weekend shifts and includes all major and minor holidays on a rotational basis.

The APP will 13-14 shifts per month, 12 hours in length. This position is a primary nocturnal position requiring 10 night shifts a month3 with 3-4 days a month.

Weekends are required on a rotating basis
