University of North Florida Student Government Engagement Coordinator in Jacksonville, Florida

Nature of Work: The Community / Social Service Coordinator, under the direction of an Assistant Director or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs. Falls under Standard Occupational Category 21-0000 Community and Social Service Occupations.

Typical Responsibilities: May provide various types of counseling to students. Work collaboratively with university staff to ensure student success. Assist in the preparation and delivery of workshops and training programs. May interpret departmental policies for area of responsibility. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Required Qualifications: This position requires either (a) Masters degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization; (b) Bachelors degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization and two years of experience directly related to the job functions; or (c ) 6 years of direct experience.

  • General Description / Primary Purpose
    • Reports to the Assistant Director of Student Government (Agencies); responsible for the administration and advisement of the Osprey Student Conduct Advisors (OSCA), an agency of Student Government that promotes knowledge, provides awareness of ethical conduct standards and the student conduct process, overall improving the student conduct relationship and facilitating an environment that develops trust between the advisors and students.
    • Counsels students in social and cultural areas affecting their non-academic development.

``` - Student Government Executive Agency Advising and Supervision - This position is the administrative constant across Student Government administrations and is responsible for the overall administration and supervision of the Osprey Student Conduct Advisors (OSCA); and plays an integral role in the program's design, development, and implementation. - Responsible for assisting in the planning and coordination of all Student Government events and activities including but not limited to Student Government Comedy Show, local sports ticketing events and other major campus events. - Serves as primary advisor to OSCA.

``` - Policy and Procedure/Subject Matter Expert - Responsible for the development, implementation and interpretation of policies and procedures that manage Osprey Student Conduct Advisors operations. - Responsible for interpreting and enforcing local and federal safety regulations as appropriate for events and activities where varying levels of risk are involved. - Recommends policies and procedures that are pertinent to Student Government leadership and programming staff; ensures agency's compliance with all University, State, Federal laws and policies and procedures; has frequent contact with student leadership and Student Affairs administrators and staff. - Maintains knowledge of best practices.

``` - Fiscal - Collaborate with the Assistant Director to build new budgets each fiscal year.

``` - Operations - Create reports to present to Assistant Director and act as professional staff representation at all Osprey Student Conduct Advisors meetings and events. - Participates in OSCA staff meetings and SG professional staff meetings; attends Senate and Legislative committee meetings as needed.

``` - Programming Initiatives and Event Planning - Oversees the management and coordination of all Student Government events and activities, including master schedule of events, and assisting at events and activities as needed. - Collaborates with other depa tments within and outside of university community regarding programming, student involvement, and retention. - Advise and assist students in the planning and implementation of student-focused programming to support SG initiatives and activities to promote student engagement. - Develop a comprehensive student leadership program and plan appropriate stages for leadership development. - Attends late night and weekend events as needed. - Monitors OSCA and SG social media platforms.

``` - Training - Provides support, guidance, and implements comprehensive student leadership development. - Supervise, train and schedule student leadership team, responsible for assisting in overall Osprey Student Conduct Advisor daily operations, including identifying maintenance, custodial, safety, accessibility, and risk management issues. - Participates in and completes Student Conduct Board trainings through the Dean of Students office.

``` - Marginal Functions - Serves on a variety of university-wide committees representing the interest of the department and university; travels to professional conferences; provides support to functions outside the department that have university-wide significance, (i.e., events which are co-sponsored by Academic and Student Affairs.

``` - Departmental Requirements - This position requires a positive, self-motivated person with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. This position is an integral part of student life, and as such, success is measured by the ability to successfully interact with students and assist in their individual needs and concerns. - Required to demonstrate a caring and patient attitude, utilize conflict resolution skills, and ensure that every effort is made to create satisfied students. Preference will be shown to applicants who meet the required qualifications and possess the following: - Ability to coordinate programs, advise students, and review written documents, manuals, journals, and publications; the ability to organize and conduct conflict resolution/mediation, facilitated dialogue sessions and meetings, panel discussions, programs, and workshops. - Demonstrated experience interacting in sensitive situations with individuals from a wide range of academic, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds. - Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance. Proven skill and abilities in conflict resolution with the ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, cultural sensitivity, and diplomacy. - Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. - The position may be occasionally required to work outside the normal 8-5 office hours as dictated by Student Government meetings, events, other programming, and internal processes.
