Position Profile
As the transportation project manager, you will be a part of multidisciplinary teams to plan, oversee, guide, and mentor staff and interface with the Florida Infrastructure Group to produce and execute the various deliverables required as part of our infrastructure practice, as well as, in support to other Hanson markets.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with FDOT, Transportation plans and standards (transportation, stormwater, utilities), and related discipline projects.
Typical responsibilities include possessing practical project accounting knowledge, and producing high-quality products within budget.
Emphasis in Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), municipal engineering and local government is preferred.
Projects are likely to include reconstruction of rural highways and roads, urban highways and streets, major urban thoroughfares, culverts and storm sewer, intersections, sidewalks and multiuse paths, rail grade crossings, signing, pavement marking, and traffic control plans for construction.
This role will function equally effectively in both client-facing and internal-facing circumstances.
A Day in the Life of a Transportation Project Manager :
Day-to-day tasks in the areas of roadway engineering design/analysis and plans/construction contract documents.
Author technical documents such as engineering reports, specifications, and special provisions.
Prepare and review complex engineering calculations.
Perform construction administration duties which include submittal review, evaluating construction progress for compliance with contract documents, and the direction of engineering support personnel and subconsultants.
Work with local governments and DOT’s to deliver projects.
Develop scope and staff hours for related tasks.
Attend and/or facilitate meetings with current and future clients.
Conduct site investigations, including determining problems, identifying alternative solutions, and providing recommendations.
Interact with clients to discuss existing and future projects.
Interface with leadership to assess performance.
Prepare responses to requests for proposals, attend project pursuit interviews and other related marketing activities for business development.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential skills sets to succeed:
Technical Skills:
Clear understanding of transportation design applications and software including Microstation and Open Roads Designer.
Experience as engineer of record on transportation studies and design projects.
Experience working with municipalities, counties, FDOT, water management districts and municipal utility districts.
Experience interacting with other peer disciplines including but not limited to roadways, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural and structural.
Soft Skills:
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts both visually and in text, to engineers, clients, and public stakeholders.
Must be able to build effective relationships with internal and external client bases and work with and manage project staff.
Must be able to work independently and as a team member to problem solve and learn new technical skills.
Must be able to collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices.
Work assignment flexibility including being available to travel for out-of-town assignments, primarily daytrips or evening attendance of local client meetings.
Hours worked will vary based on project demands, including occasional, periodic overtime.
Education/Experience :
A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive transportation engineering experience.
At minimum, possess an active Professional Engineers license in Florida or the ability to obtain it within six (6) months.
Participation with technical society organizations a plus
