Motor Vehicle Mechanic

Location: Camp Lejeune, North Carolina – Motor Transport Division

Type: Non-ExemptWork Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift

Compensation: $28.87 - $28.87 per hour

Skookum is seeking a reliable and helpful Motor Vehicle Mechanic with a positive attitude.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Must be knowledgeable in maintenance of various makes and models of commercial and non-commercial equipment/vehicles.

  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring, and hydraulic schematics to ensure proper diagnosis and repair on assigned equipment.

  • Perform services and repairs outlined in established service and repair manuals.

  • Perform initial receiving inspection, safety checks, and a final road tests on equipment as required. (minimum of five miles).

  • Perform inspections, maintenance, services, repairs, and overhaul as required. This includes, but not limited to, wheeled vehicles, track vehicles, engineer equipment, power generation, and material handling equipment, propane, natural, gas, battery, gasoline, and diesel engine-powered vehicles; light, medium, and heavy equipment; trailers.

  • Performs major repairs to include disassembling, removing, cleaning, and installing components and parts necessary to restore equipment to an operational status.

  • Perform inspection, service, and repairs on various brake, suspension, wheels, hubs, steering systems, drive-train components, and electrical systems.

  • Perform services and repairs on A/C systems.

  • Perform tire services and repairs using shop equipment as required.

  • Maintain accurate labor form for assigned work.

  • Accurately identify and order necessary repair parts for assigned equipment.

  • Maintains clean, organized workspace in compliance with established safety procedures.

  • Must exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to priorities and changing needs of the customer.

  • Provide clear and accurate communication to customers. This includes creating and maintaining positive working relationships with customers in the course of daily work.

  • Provide wrecker services as required.

Qualifications:

  • Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of general automotive experience.

  • Ability to diagnose, trouble-shoot, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • 609 EPA certification.

  • Preferred:

  • CDL Class A preferred.

  • 608 EPA certification.

  • ASE certification.

  • Forklift certification.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum’s insurance.

  • A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A is preferred. Must be able to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum’s insurance company.

  • If CDL Class A is used, candidate must meet federal guidelines to be considered for this position - Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment drug screening, medical examination certification, and cleared query with the FMCSA Clearinghouse is required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
