Job Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Service, supervises Physician Associates and Senior Physician Associates in their delivery of clinical care. Under supervision of a licensed physician, performs duties of a Physician Associate including evaluation and treatment of patients having medical and/or surgical problems, or requiring obstetrical care. Teaches staff and students and performs quality assurance functions for the department. Performs supervisory functions including staff recruitment, scheduling, professional development, performance evaluations and participation in the disciplinary process.
Qualifications
-Licensed as a physician assistant in the State of New York.
-At minimum, a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.
-Certification with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
-Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
-Certification in Pediatric Life Support (PALS).
-A high level of interpersonal skills to allow effective communications with a wide variety of hospital personnel, physicians, MLPs and the general public.
-Hospital-based emergency medicine care and expertise.
-Documented interest and experience in emergency medicine education.
Responsibilities

-Coordinate overall patient care

Ensure appropriate patient discharge instructions
Maximize ability to deliver timely care
-Expedite patient flow from triage to admission/discharge/transfer
-Handle all patient complaints and document follow up
-Respond to all medical and allied staff complaints
-Coordinate involvement with related clinical services.

-To ensure there is appropriate level of MLP coverage to meet the clinical needs of the Department.
Clinical Responsibilities
-To work as a physician assistant in the ED.
-To work all tours, including weekends and public holidays.
-To be on administrative call.
Administrative Responsibilities:
-To work with and support the Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine in establishing and maintaining patient care policies and procedures and ensuring the ED conforms with the bylaws, rules and regulations of the Queens Hospital Center Medical staff and appropriate Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
-To Chair, under the supervision and guidance of the Director, the Departmental Continuous Quality Improvement Committee.
-To develop and implement a process for the annual evaluation of emergency medicine nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
-To be aware at all times of the Departmental plans, ongoing issues and philosophy of management as set forth by the Director and to be able to articulate these positions clearly in the absence of the Director.
-To represent the Director of the Department and to act in his/her stead should he/she be unavailable.
-To represent the Department of the Emergency Medicine on at least one institution-wide committee at the discretion of the Director of the Department.
-To assess the overall status of the ED.

-To be scheduled as an ED Administrator on call.

Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $115494 - $173241 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
