Generac Power Systems Supervisor Purchasing in Janesville, Wisconsin

The Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for leading a team that optimizes manufacturing efficiency and the level of inventory (inventory turns). The Purchasing Supervisor will work closely with corporate Strategic Global Sourcing team to leverage spend in key categories optimize total cost of ownership (TCO). Responsible for implementing effective processes that minimize E&O (New Product Introductions, Phase In/Out, Engineering Changes). Success in this role is defined by driving significant step function changes in purchasing capabilities. This will be measured by ongoing improvements in delivery performance, working capital and material margins (total cost of ownership).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and maintain optimal level of inventory using Plan for Every Part (PFEP) to improve fill rates and maximizing inventory turns.

  • Select, coach, and develop staff. Set clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manager performance- recognizing achievement, providing feedback and administering progressive discipline when necessary.

  • Maintain key accounts by administering purchase orders, contracts, RFQ’s (request for quotes), to meet required terms and conditions and sourcing materials for finished goods, spares inventory, engineering, and distribution.

  • Execute standard purchasing processes and strategies including procure-to-pay definition and optimization.

  • Support direction and strategies regarding supplier demand forecasting, supplier capacity planning, supply base inventory management, supplier replenishment and procurement transactions.

  • Work with Strategic Global Sourcing Department to identify key and preferred suppliers for key categories of spend that support business unit and corporate objectives.

  • Identify and assist with resolving issues that delay material deliveries.

  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure delivery capability and improve supply chain capabilities like lead times and working capital.

  • Improve efficiency and effectiveness of the purchasing function.

  • Work closely with Planning and Materials teams to achieve goals and KPI’s.

  • Requisition major purchased items and coordinate timely processing of those parts finished outside the company.

  • Act as SAP Super User within functional area as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

  • 2 years of purchasing or related experience in an operational environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP system (Oracle, JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics) and Microsoft Office.

  • Formal leadership or team development training.

  • Experience in Lean or Demand Flow principles.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; and talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to walk; stoop; crouch; bend and reach above shoulders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, waist high, up to 10 feet away. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in the typical conditions of a manufacturing environment including seasonal variation in temperatures and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or by-products. The employee must comply with the assigned location PPE requirements including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing and shields for required tasks and closed toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies.

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
