The anticipated salary range for this role is between $68,000.00 and $85,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

SMBC is seeking an Analyst to work within the Controllers department at the Jersey City location. This position will support Americas Division Center of Excellence, which is responsible for General Ledger and Chart of Account maintenance, Balance Sheet substantiation and end user computing controls across entities.

  • Maintain General Ledger and Chart of Accounts, including new account opening, closing of old accounts, account mapping, annual metadata review, etc.

  • Assist with reviewing various suspense accounts and clearing accounts for month-end close

  • Support development and implementation of effective internal controls and reporting procedures to improve operational performance and minimize the financial reporting risk

  • Communicate with the Controllers regarding project, accounting and/or reporting items

  • Support various projects related to General Ledger and Controls enhancement

  • Assist with internal and external auditor requests

Qualifications and Skills

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a financial services sector, financial institutions or public accounting experience is preferred

  • Experience with GL/ERP applications required (Oracle GL system preferred)

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications - Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Visio

  • Knowledge of pivot tables, excel formulas, etc. required

  • Knowledge of US GAAP preferred

  • Excellent analytical, communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently

  • Detail oriented and well organized
