Job Summary:

The Enterprise Data Products Portfolio Management team in Technology is focused on a transformative journey that will support our data strategy on how we develop and deliver critical business outcomes, in addition to how we engage with partners across MUFG for Data, AI, and BI services.

Our team is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join as a Vice President, Lead Data Analyst and Portfolio Manager for Financial Products, reporting directly to Head of Planning & Strategy for Enterprise Data Platforms & Services to support projects and BAU work efforts. We’re looking for someone known for effectively bridging IT and business teams, with an ability to masterfully speak the language of both. This is a highly visible and impactful position as the role requires facing off to senior stakeholders and liaising with technologists to exchange information in a concise, logical, and understandable way in supporting the product owners. The successful candidate must be able to manage overall delivery whilst adopting an agile methodology and managing project timelines and risks.

This is a dual-hatted role where the individual works as both a Lead Analyst and a Portfolio Manager for Financial Products. You will also lead a small team of business analysts and scrum masters, emphasizing technology adoption, process optimization, and continuous delivery of Data, AI, and BI Products & Services.

Responsibilities for Data Product Portfolio Manager:

  • Stakeholder Management: Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders to understand their business challenges and identify how Data Solutions can support their objectives.

  • Centralized Demand Management: See new demand and route requests through a centralized intake process. Capture all types of demand into a Consolidated Book of Work – Project and BAU work requests, product ideas – with the appropriate information for evaluation. Create/Maintain a holistic view of all work and resources.

  • Prioritization: Engage with business stakeholders to solicit and manage requests that equitably handle competing priorities across business teams. Determine what can realistically be completed based on resource capacity and budgets. Evaluate multiple scenarios to identify the optimal mix of projects and work.

  • Agile Work Management: Manage incremental deliverables while centralizing important information so that everyone’s always on the same page. Spotlight issues that need attention. Proactively manage changes and issues.

  • Manage dependencies: Visualize dependencies across programs, projects and BAU work, and applications – understand relationships and optimize delivery.

  • Risk management: Track and mitigate risks to minimize surprises and improve communication across teams. Demonstrate strong ability to intuitively identify impediments on the critical path and unblock them.

  • Reporting: Create workplans and other key tracking mechanisms. Provide visibility and insights into portfolio. Help maintain a mature reporting dashboard to monitor portfolio health of data products & services.

Responsibilities for Lead Data Analyst:

  • Develop and maintain a deeper understanding of Financial Products including but not limited to Loans & Leases, Deposits, Letters of Credit, Payments, Foreign Exchange, Derivatives, Options & Futures, Fixed Income Securities, etc.

  • Work closely with various stakeholders and clients to understand their workflows and data needs and translate those into specifications for data products.

  • Lead the initial discovery process for prioritized scope of work by uncovering high-level business requirements.

  • Contribute to the evolution of a business user data catalog, and a living spec for each data product where the living spec contains mapping specifications for data and reports, business rules used for data curation, and who uses data for what purpose.

  • Develop deep understanding of upstream dependencies / origins of data products and generate meaningful data-driven insights, present findings to various partners, identify potential issues with the data, build quality checks and continually track enhancements required to maintain data consistency.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years technology industry experience in Banking & Financial Services sector

  • 5+ years' experience in Systems Analysis, Data Analysis

  • 5+ years of experience in data management, data analytics

  • 5+ years of Portfolio Management, Data Product Development, or Data Operations

Business Acumen:

  • Must have a strong business and data acumen in Core Banking and Capital Markets products such as Loans, Leases, Foreign Exchange, Fixed Income, Derivatives, etc.

  • Expertise in business requirements analysis, design, functional & detail design

  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g. BCBS 239, GDPR, etc.)

  • Understanding of data pipelines associated with Risk Reports such as Credit Risk, Regulatory Reports such as FR 2052a, FFIEC002, etc. a plus

  • Experience preparing user stories, data flows, and product technical specifications

Human Skills:

  • Strong organizational, communication (verbal & written), and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to present both in person and virtually to senior management and train client audiences on a business and technical level.

  • Demonstrated ability in building consensus across business areas and other stakeholders to support new ways of thinking about capabilities and value

  • Candidate must have the ability to quickly transition as priorities change

Data skills:

  • Must have experience in Data analysis, including creating complex SQL queries

  • Must have experience in Data warehousing and/or Data Lakes, and Data Marts

  • Working knowledge of 3NF data models, dimensional data models, etc.

  • Experience with data models associated with financial data domains

  • Experience with data governance tools such as Collibra a plus

  • Experience with GL and other reconciliations

Technical Skills:

  • Must have experience in Jira, Confluence, MS office

  • Must have familiarity with Data Integration/ETL tools

  • Proficiency in SQL, Handling Files using Python, Hive Query Language

  • Exposure to Cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, etc. a plus

  • Must have experience with relational Databases such as DB2, Oracle, etc.

  • Expertise in data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, etc.

  • Exposure to AI/ML is a plus

Portfolio Management skills:

  • Proven experience in a senior product management role, with a focus on financial systems or related technologies

  • Familiar with Agile methodology and play an active role in scrums such as backlog refinement, sprint planning and execution. The ability to apply backlog prioritization to define sprint goals and enable iterative deliveries is key.

  • Manage the demand for ad hoc analytical requests from our business partners. Provide a high level of responsiveness to meet business priorities

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in science or business or management or finance related fields.

MBA or advanced degree is a plus.

The typical base pay range for this role is between $133K - $164K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
