The anticipated salary range for this role is between $143,000.00 and $185,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Sustainability and Climate Risk VP

Role Description

This position sits within the Enterprise Risk Management of SMBC’s Risk Management Department, which is the 2nd line of defense independent risk management function for the bank. As a Sustainability & Climate Risk VP, you will play an integral role in SMBC Sustainability Ecosystem and One Platform development and support the buildout of the regional Sustainability and Climate Risk Management program by developing and integrating into Ecosystem sustainability and climate risk models, metrics, analytics tools and achieving sustainability risk data requirement. This Ecosystem is to support the bank to measure and embed Sustainability and Climate risk considerations throughout the business. You will work with leaders across risk disciplines and business units to develop Sustainability and Climate risk measurement methodologies, analytic tools and their integration into business and One Platform. This role will involve close partnership with the firm’s Technology functions to achieve the goal of model development and integration.

Role Objectives:

  • Support SMBC Sustainability Ecosystem and One Platform

  • Support the development of climate risk models, metrics and their integration into Platform

  • Develop integration methodology of climate risks into different risk stripes (e.g. credit, market, liquidity and operational, etc) thought qualitative assessment, quantitative metrics, scenarios analysis, etc.

  • Support climate scenario analysis and stress testing methodology and their integration into business process

  • Improve financed emission methodology and calculation

  • Support sustainability and climate risk scorecard development and integration into Platform

  • Work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders across SMBC to support the development, coordination, and implementation of enterprise-wide climate risk management framework elements

Qualifications and Skills

  • BA/BS in business, finance, economics, and/or other quantitative fields, advanced degree a plus

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant climate risk modeling experience within consulting, banking, investment management and ESG rating industries.

  • Hands on experience of Python/R and SQL, experience of PowerBI is a plus.

  • Good understanding of sustainability and climate Risk ID, taxonomy and risk mapping.

  • Experience in climate risk transition scenario analysis and its integration into credit model including PD/LGD/ELs, OR climate physical scenario analysis, physical heat map and their integration into business process.

  • Experience in climate risk assessment model scorecard

  • Experience in sustainability and climate risk metrics development
