Queens Community House Internship Coordinator in John Adams HS- YABC Program, New York

Schedule: M-Thurs, 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm; Fridays, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Position Overview:

Queens Community House (QCH) is looking for a passionate and experienced Learning to Work (LTW) Internship Coordinator to join our team. The LTW program offers an alternative pathway to graduation for youth aged 17 and older. Funded by the NYC Department of Education and in partnership with the Young Adult Borough Center at John Adams High School, this program provides students with valuable work experiences and prepares them for future educational and career opportunities. The Internship Coordinator will be instrumental in guiding students through their internship journey and ensuring they gain the skills needed for success.

Key Responsibilities:

Internship Development & Management:

  • Develop, secure, and oversee a diverse range of internship opportunities tailored to students’ career interests and goals.

  • Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with employers to ensure internships offer meaningful, compliant learning experiences.

  • Conduct regular site visits and maintain consistent communication with employers and students to track progress and resolve issues.

    Student Counseling & Support:

  • Deliver personalized and group career counseling to support students’ academic, social-emotional, and professional growth.

  • Conduct frequent check-ins with students to evaluate their internship experiences, academic progress, and personal development.

  • Assist students with resume building, interview preparation, and other career-related skills.

    Program Coordination:

  • Organize and lead career panels, job fairs, and workshops to expose students to various career paths and educational opportunities.

  • Collaborate with LTW staff and school partners to ensure the program effectively addresses participants' needs.

  • Monitor and assess program outcomes to ensure students meet internship hour requirements and overall program objectives.

    Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student participation, internship placements, and outcomes using Salesforce and other databases.

  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain comprehensive records related to internships and student progress.

  • Support the recruitment, intake, and orientation processes for new students entering the LTW program.

    Community & Family Engagement:

  • Engage with students’ families to keep them informed and supportive of their children’s involvement in the program.

  • Partner with community organizations to enhance program offerings and provide additional resources for students.

    Other Duties:

  • Participate in QCH staff meetings, trainings, and organizational events.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Education, Social Work, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with youth in educational or workforce development settings.

  • In-depth knowledge of career development, workforce readiness, and the challenges faced by high school students.

  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with employers, students, and community partners.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with database management.
