WesleyLife seeks a Chef in Pella, IA.

POSITION DUTIES:Responsible for the proper planning and production of all menus, assisting in the supervision of all kitchen, dining, and related staff, and maintaining an exceptional level of hospitality for our residents and guests. Assists Director of Food Services with overall operation of the kitchen including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management of food service personnel. Responsible for development of daily menus, determination of amount and type of food and supplies, and ordering as budgeted. Plans and participates in resident-chef forums, catering of special events, and other periodic celebrations and activities. Communicates to Director of Food Services all activities and divisional operational opportunities and problems. Makes written suggestions for improvement and/or corrections as needed. Responsible for all food purchases, production sheets, scheduling, and other related material. Monitors food quality and quantity and takes corrective action to ensure food and service standards are maintained. Ensure product is completed to meet time deadlines. Follows infection control techniques in all work and practices. Utilizes sanitary work practices while handling food and for department maintenance. Responsible for waste control of resources (food, supplies, equipment and utilities) to avoid over and under production, preparation, waste and improper care and utilization of leftovers.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The qualified candidate must have a certificate of any type in the culinary arts or foreign equivalent. The qualified candidate must have at least 1 year (12 months) of experience with all the following: (a) cooking experience in a commercial kitchen and dining area; (b) coordinating and developing menus; (c) analyzing required ingredients and purchasing food and products; (d) Mise en place (putting in place of ingredients for production); (e) waste control of food and supplies; and (f) cost control. All experience may be gained concurrently.
