HFM BOCES is seeking a proactive and experienced Director of Facilities II to lead and oversee the planning, organizing, and maintenance operations for our facilities. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Oversee: Manage all aspects of facility maintenance, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Supervise custodial, maintenance, and safety staff across multiple units.

  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance programs to maintain optimal building operations, equipment, and safety.

  • Project Management: Oversee and inspect capital projects and maintenance work performed by contractors, ensuring that all work meets district standards and codes.

  • Budget Oversight: Assist in budget forecasting, track expenditures, and ensure financial responsibility for facility-related projects.

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all safety systems, including HVAC, fire alarms, and security systems, are regularly tested and compliant with relevant codes and regulations.

  • Team Development: Mentor, train, and evaluate custodial and maintenance teams to ensure a high standard of work and continuous improvement.

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • (A) Bachelor’s Degree or higher in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture with at least 2 years of relevant experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work, or construction management, one year of which must have been at a supervisory level; OR

  • (B) Associate’s Degree or higher in School Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture with at least with at least 4 years of relevant experience as described in (A), or construction management, one year of which must have been at a supervisory level; OR

  • (C) 6 years of progressive experience in school facilities maintenance, general building construction, building maintenance or repair work, or construction management, one year of which must have been at a supervisory level; OR

  • (D) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined in (A), (B) and (C) above.

    Please Note: This is a Provisional Civil Service Appointment The selected candidate will be appointed provisionally and will be required to take the Director of Facilities II Civil Service Exam when it is next offered. Appointment is contingent upon successfully passing the exam and being reachable on the resulting civil service list. This is a fantastic opportunity to begin the position now while preparing for the exam.
