POSITION: Skate Guard
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Facility Manager
FLSA STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt/Part-Time
Summary
The Skate Guard is primarily responsible for observing ice skating patrons at North Central Recreation Center. In addition, the Skate Guard is responsible for the cleanliness of the lobby, meeting/party room, bathrooms, locker rooms, bleachers, and hallways, as well as other assigned areas. This position will provide customer service to facility guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Greet customers with a smile and provide information on our facilities and programs in a kind and courteous manner.
Control on-ice skating with concern to our posted rules & regulations.
Supervise and monitor guests utilizing the facility.
Enforce safety rules and regulations that ensure the facility operates in a safe manner.
Maintain cleanliness of ice rink: lobby, meeting/party room, skate rental room, bathrooms, locker rooms, bleachers, and hallways, as well as other assigned areas by the supervisor.
Check wristbands or hand stamps to ensure all skaters have paid.
Assist with distribution and return of rental skates.
Assist with ice maintenance – shovel access snow off ice, if necessary.
Help with special events, i.e. field trips, holiday programs, birthday parties, etc.
Shovel and salt sidewalks and exits to maintain safe entrance and egress.
Perform other duties assigned by managers.

Education and/or Experience
As a condition of employment, the candidate must successfully complete a background investigation.
Prior experience sharpening skates is a plus but not required.
Previous facility operations experience a plus but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Able to work standing, walking or skating for long periods of time (for up to an entire shift)
Ability to skate under control and perform basic skating skills.
Must be punctual with reliable transportation.
Ability to work in cold air and outdoor environments.
Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner.
Ability to follow written and oral directions.
Prior point of sale system experience a plus but not required.
CPR & First Aid training a plus but not required.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
A willingness to work flexible hours is required including nights, weekends, and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.

Regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing, or balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.
Requires wet and occasional humid conditions.
