In September of 2020, American Water was awarded a 50-year contract to privatize the water and wastewater utilities at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington state. JBLM is the DoD’s premiere military installation on the West Coast. JBLM was formed in 2010 after the consolidation of Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base. It is a joint force power projection platform for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. JBLM is home to the Army's I Corps and the Air Force's 62nd Airlift Wing, as well as several reserve components. The joint base has a population of approximately 110,000 people including, 40,000 active duty, 60,000 family members and 15,000 civilian and contract employees. American Water will provide water treatment, storage, and distribution across JBLM. As a whole, the water system includes approximately 1.67 million linear feet of water pipe, 1,957 hydrants, 9,138 valves, 21 wells, and 28 tanks. The wastewater collection system includes a wastewater treatment plant and approximately 1.2 million linear feet of pipe, 3,120 manholes, and 99 lift stations. Job Details Salary Range $68,640 - $114,660 annually The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. American Water is also proud to offer employees learning opportunities and work experiences to grow professionally! _ Primary Role_ * Responsible for all activities involving the operations and maintenance of the water/wastewater distribution and collections system. * Supervisory responsibilities for employees. * Develops processes for daily staff work functions, oversees use of operational and maintenance information. * Leads implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety programs. _ Key Accountabilities_ * Schedules, coordinates and provides field supervision of staff involved in operational and maintenance activities of water/wastewater distribution and collections system. * Provide for the training of assigned personnel in work methods, use of tools and equipment, and safety practices. * Orders materials and supplies for routine operations, and preventative and emergency maintenance. * Maintains records and prepares reports. * Assist in the development of departmental standard operating procedures and emergency response plans and procedures. * Performs other related functions as assigned. * Conducts performance evaluations of assigned subordinate personnel. * Participates in hiring, and disciplinary actions of assigned subordinate personnel in accordance with company policies. * Follows Company Environmental, Health and Safety Policies, and reports unsafe conditions to supervision immediately. _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Able to perform routine maintenance and servicing standardized water / wastewater process control, monitoring, and compliance sampling and testing. * Able to prepare and maintain accurate paperwork such as records, logs, orders, surveys and routine reports as directed. * Able to communicate effectively will all levels of the organization. * Computer literate; MS Word, MS Excel, GIS and CMMS systems. * Able to perform accurate mathematical calculations related to this position. * Able to plan, schedule, prioritize, and coordinate work within assigned work area. * Able to respond to emergencies. * Able to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, customers, and the general public. * Able to work in a team environment * Knowledge of techniques, equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in operations, maintenance, construction, and mechanical repair of water/wastewater distribution and collections system. * Knowledge of health and safety regulations. _ Experience/Education_ * Degree in sanitary, chemical, civil, electrical or mechanical engineering, public or business administration or other equivalent degree preferred.
