Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is searching for a seasoned and innovative Manager, Design to join our team. The Manager, Design will be responsible for instituting, formalizing, and reinforcing design governance, standards, and processes across all projects and applications. The successful candidate will ensure timely, consistent, and tactically excellent delivery of UI/UX design and front-end development. Working closely with consulting leads and digital strategists, the Manager, Design will manage execution resources and timelines while overseeing a team of contractors and project-specific pods through Statements of Work (SOW).

Key Responsibilities

  • Institute, Formalize, and Reinforce Design Governance and Standards:

  • Establish and maintain design governance, standards, and processes across all projects and applications.

  • Ensure all design work adheres to these standards to maintain consistency and quality.

  • Regularly review and update design standards and processes to stay ahead of industry trends and best practices.

  • Ensure Timely, Consistent, and Excellent Delivery:

  • Oversee the timely and consistent delivery of UI/UX design and front-end development across all projects and applications.

  • Establish tactical excellence in design execution to meet project goals and timelines.

  • Implement quality control measures to ensure high standards in all design outputs.

  • Collaborate with Experience Architecture team:

  • Work in depth with experience architect management and team members to manage design execution resources and timelines.

  • Ensure alignment between design initiatives and strategic goals.

  • Foster effective communication and collaboration between teams to ensure cohesive project delivery.

  • Manage Contractors and Project-Specific Pods:

  • Lead and oversee a team of direct reports, primarily contractors and pods, delivering project and application-specific deliverables through SOW.

  • Ensure contractors and internal teams are aligned with project requirements and timelines.

  • Provide guidance, support, and feedback to contractors and teams to enhance performance and output quality.

  • Evaluate contractor performance and manage contract renewals or terminations as needed.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in UI/UX design leadership, front-end development, or a related role.

  • Proven experience in establishing and enforcing design governance, standards, and processes.

  • Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering high-quality design work on time and within budget.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience managing contractors and project-specific teams.

  • Proficiency in design and front-end development tools and software.

  • Strong understanding of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in UI/UX design.

This position guides teams in the execution of agile initiatives to deliver customer value. Employees in this role train and coach in the use of Scrum, Lean, Kanban, XP, and scale agile framework practices.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Trains and coaches leaders, teams, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindset

  • Contributes in Communities of Practice (CoP), within the agile network

  • Promotes and encourages collaboration and transparency and builds trusting relationships between business, delivery, and other entities within the organization

  • Facilitates periodic synchronization meetings across several different onsite and distributed delivery teams

  • Prepares program and release backlogs, as well as team and program objectives

  • Tracks, promotes, and publishes completed program features and program and team objectives

  • Manages risk and dependencies, communicates and escalates impediments to facilitate transparency, and reduces bottlenecks

  • Embraces a continuous improvement mindset, and drives the use of agile engineering best practices and innovation

  • Reports on standardized program-level metrics, and understands, tracks, and operates within the program budget

  • Plays an instrumental role in the organization’s Agile transformation, acts as a change agent, and shows strong leadership skills with a positive and collaborative attitude

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED

  • Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience

  • Experience: 8+ years

  • Supervisor/Management Experience: 2+ years
