TEKsystems Maui Drop Technician in Kahului, Hawaii

MAUI: ENTRY-LEVEL CABLE DROP TECHNICIANS

We are looking for someone reliable who wants a long-term career in the industry. This will be a stable job with career growth. Starting pay is at $19/hour with no experience and will get an increase of $1-2 after 3 months and another increase to $23.50 at 6 months. There is A LOT of overtime to pick up and OT is paid time and a half.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables.

  • Construct a proper splice case, including but not limited to: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing.

  • Read and interpret work orders, specifications, engineering drawings and/or cut sheets to determine work to be done in sequence of task.

  • Perform work in accordance with industry standards.

  • Be familiar with BICSI standards, read and follow design engineers’ instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work on the project and adhere to safety procedures.

  • Interpret buried underground and aerial telecom facilities in records, on maps, and in the field with clarity and detail, and make recommendations for changes in running lines or construction methodologies.

  • Maintain inside and outside plant records during installation.

  • Participate in engineering, permit, and construction processes to support project contracts.

  • Perform routine maintenance.

  • Recognize and repair route issues, including maintenance, hand hole cleanup, and sign placement.

  • Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach/attach various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.

  • Respond to and participate in emergency and outage situations that require heavy construction capabilities.

  • Ensure that all work considers the customer's and general public's safety and compliance with all governmental orders.

  • Able and willing to work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions.

  • Complete daily production reports and As-Built documentation on prints

Opportunity to learn the telecom trade and work on various projects - i.e., commercial (Queen's, Department of Energy, Hawaiian Telcom)

government projects (supporting the DoD).

Work Environment:

Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Report to office at 7:00 am to pick up tools/car/work order.

Working at various customer sites across the island; must have a valid driver's license. A company car will be provided.

Top Skills' Details:

1) Seeking a candidate who is looking to get Telecom trade experience (Layer 1 fiber/cat5/cat6). If they have hands-on labor experience and would like to learn the Telecom trade, they are open to training.

2) Ability to carry 50 lbs or more as the equipment and tools are heavy. For instance, their ladders are heavy and awkward to carry.

3) Ability to provide great customer service as they will be servicing residential and commercial customers.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00
