Kalamazoo County Government Trial Courtroom Clerk in Kalamazoo, Michigan
GENERAL SUMMARY
The purpose of this job is to process Court files and records for the Ninth Circuit court accurately and in a timely manner. This position will be responsible for working and assisting in the courtroom during hearings, trials, and proceedings held virtually.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review, analyze, and monitor legal documentation within court files and documents submitted for judicial review.
- Compose and prepare Court orders and reports from dictated, handwritten, and computer-drafted documentation.
- Coordinate the efficient processing of cases and courtroom proceedings. Efficiently process court pleadings and notices of scheduled proceedings, including Zoom notices. Coordinate hearing dates with the public and attorney's offices via phone and email. Efficiently process mail returned to the court.
- Assist Judges at court proceedings. Attend and monitor court proceedings, complete and docket summary reports and orders. Operates video recording equipment, maintains video logs for proceedings, hosts and operates Zoom sessions, and manages breakout rooms.
- Schedule court proceedings using the court computer software program. Prepare and review court docket schedules. Resolve scheduling conflicts of Judges.
- Maintain lists of proper service and proper notice of each case. Prepare and print court summary reports. Check the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court Odyssey program to research relevant information about proceedings.
- Respond to inquiries from attorneys, court staff, and hearing officials.
- Perform duties for juries. Secure information jurors receive, secure the jury rooms from interference, track and help jurors, schedule breaks, and address any concerns of jurors or Judges regarding an empaneled jury. Arrange for interpreters and special accommodations as needed.

* MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or a related field
- At least three (3) to five (5) years of related work experience, such as experience in court and/or law office setting and experience drafting and proofreading documentation.
