BEST FRIENDS ANIMAL SOCIETY General Landscaper Tier I in KANAB, Utah

Location: Kanab UT

*Hiring Range: *This position's hiring range is anticipated to be $16.00 to $18.00 hourly, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled.

Summary: The General Landscaper (Tier 1) assists in the maintenance of the landscaped areas of the Sanctuary, maintain the natural beauty of the undeveloped areas of the Sanctuary, and performs a variety of related tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

You are responsible and accountable for the culture you add to your team dynamic.
  • Performs manual and power tool assisted weed removal from lawns, garden & flower beds, rock beds, walkways, parking lots, animal areas, areas of heavy traffic and natural landscaped areas.
  • Performs daily mowing and edging of lawns using gas or battery powered mowers and trimmers.
  • Performs pruning of trees and various vegetation to industry standard using chainsaw, power tools & hand tools.
  • Waters areas by hand using a hose and/or watering can as directed.
  • Monitors all plants while working and report any changes or concerns.
  • Performs snow removal of walkways and public buildings.
  • Maintains a safe workplace, valuing and modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety practices and rules, and communicating about unsafe practices and conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must be personally committed to the Mission and Core Values of the Best Friends Animal Society.
  • Previous experience in landscaping or gardening preferred.
  • Ability to work alone as well as working as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow written or oral direction effectively.
  • Sensitivity to environmental issues.
  • A positive approach to challenging situations.
  • An ability to learn on the job and a desire to learn new skills.
  • General basic computer skills required, email, calendar & internet applications.
  • Ability to professionally advocate Best Friends' positions on issues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry 80 pounds.
  • Must be able to work outdoors for prolonged periods in all weather conditions with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity daily, including, but not limited to: climbing, lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a 3-year clean driving record.
