WSP is initiating a search for an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and V2X Market Lead for our Midwest Region Transportation practice. The position affords the flexibility to be based out of any of our Midwest offices.

The regional ITS Lead is a member of WSP’s Midwest Region Transportation Leadership Team and will work closely with local and regional leadership to promote a proactive business development operation, partnering national business line executives to align priorities and drive successful client, pursuit, proposal and visibility activities across the Midwest states. We are looking for someone that is an excellent communicator, is highly strategic, can influence and inspire others, and brings a deep understanding of the ITS industry and V2X market, clients and competition. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as project manager, deputy project manager, or technical task lead for projects, focusing on the analysis and authorship of planning, policy analysis, funding strategies, system requirements, concept of operations, strategic communications, and risk analysis and management of TSMO and other ITS and V2X projects.

  • Collaborate with the local TEC leads, Local Business Leaders, and the National Business Line to drive business growth across all WSP Midwest markets, focusing on ITS and V2X.

  • Support national business line development activities for ITS and V2X, including the identification of project leads with prospective clients and developing a pre-positioning plan to enhance the likelihood of WSP success in landing the project.

  • Serve as an WSP representative/liaison to a variety of external entities including Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry-related groups, and various government and community entities.

  • Perform a range of marketing and business development activities within the region, including gathering client intelligence, leading pursuits and proposal development, presentations, manpower and fee estimates.

  • Represent the firm in the market through involvement in client and industry events and associations to promote WSP’s capabilities, gather market intelligence gathering and develop a pipeline of opportunities.

  • Develop promotional and proposal material.

  • Develop strategic alliances and industry partnerships.

  • Interface with staff from a range of other disciplines to support a diverse range of projects across business lines.

  • Provide leadership and ensure standards are adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

  • Anticipate medium and long-term client needs, industry dynamics, and changing market conditions, develop strategic and action plans to address changing market conditions.

  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities and conditions and cope effectively with complexity and change

  • Communicate ideas clearly with remote teams

The ITS Lead must be able to excel in technical, marketing, and project management roles. Experience working in the Midwest market areas is a necessity!

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related field

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in transportation and infrastructure projects

  • Minimum 7 years leading, managing and mentoring teams of ITS engineers and technicians

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven success in a leadership role

  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills

  • Experience as a Project Manager leading complex ITS projects

  • Strong technical skills relevant to the ITS system engineering process

  • Demonstrated deep relationships with State DOTs and local governments, contractors, transportation agencies and professional organizations

  • Demonstrated experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment is highly desirable.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

  • Preference given to local candidates

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license

Additional Beneficial Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related field

  • Technical experience in the design and implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)

  • Recognized industry leader holding prominent role in professional societies such as ITS America, AASHTO, ITE, ACEC, WTS, COMTO
