Burns & McDonnell Project Manager - Development Projects (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

The Project Manager for Development Projects is responsible for the overall management of supporting large scale project development for our clients, including both strategic development and competitive transmission projects. The Project Manager will be responsible for supporting both the technical and commercial development of these projects until the project is transitioned to the execution phase. The Project Manager will closely engage with multiple clients and senior executives, business line teams, technical resources, and execution resources to support the development of assigned projects to create, facilitate and manage a consistent and coherent project development process.

  • Manage, develop, and improve project development process.

  • Direct and oversee management of development resources and collaborate with regional office management on improving those resources.

  • Develop staff to pursue and capture projects including making proposals and presentations.

  • Assess projects and mitigate risk through the development process.

  • Oversee project development including scope, budget, schedule and resources.

  • Make contracting recommendations to clients and help develop conceptual plans for execution strategies for the clients.

  • Facilitate and oversee contract reviews and negotiations in collaboration with business line director.

  • Conduct Q1 and Q2 reviews.

  • Work with department and project management to ensure that staff resource assignments are aligned with the project requirements with respect to roles, skills and quantity. Ensure that client diversity goals and initiatives are met.

  • In consultation with the project execution manager and leadership, review and approve all budgets and schedules for development efforts, including determining appropriate compensation arrangements and financial performance metrics for the projects.

  • Ensure alignment and support of regional office proposal efforts and risk assessments.

  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for direct reports.

  • Comply with the Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.

  • Comply with the Burns & McDonnell Safety & Health Program

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related degree from an accredited program.

  • A minimum of 7 years relevant engineering experience, major project (>$100M) development experience, and/or project management, consulting, or program management.

  • Experience in transmission/substation projects not required, but preferred. Licensed professional engineer preferred.

  • Experience in client and business development.

  • Experience in project management including planning, design team coordination and communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.

  • Expert experience in proposal development.

  • Excellent facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.

  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and able to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent.
