Job Summary: As the Head of Debt Capital Markets Research, your primary responsibility will be to track and synthesize debt capital markets activities within commercial real estate across the globe. You will be responsible for aggregating expert insights around salient lending trends and generating thought leadership that can be shared within Chatham as well as with clients and across the industry. The Head of Debt Capital Markets Research must understand and effectively communicate all aspects of commercial real estate debt capital markets. This includes expert-level knowledge of how various debt capital providers underwrite risk and make decisions across global markets. Additionally, this individual must grasp drivers of pricing and the types of risk providers are willing to lend against. Debt capital providers could include: bank balance sheet, syndication, securitization, regional vs. money center banks, insurance companies, agency lenders, and debt funds. The Head of Research must also possess a comprehensive understanding of a wide range of loan structures. You will work closely with our clients to understand the markets they are invested in, their investment and financing strategies and other factors that may impact the solutions Chatham delivers to its clients. In addition to understanding our clients you will also be responsible for building strong relationships with our clients, providing ongoing support, and ensuring that we are delivering the highest level of service possible.The successful candidate will have a strong background in commercial real estate, with expertise in areas such as debt capital markets, debt management, valuations, or consulting services. They will also have exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to conduct detailed financial analysis and modeling. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are also essential, as this position will require communication with clients, team members and other stakeholders. In this role you will: Track debt capital markets activity across global markets and all asset classes, focusing on the ways in which markets have changed since the previous report was delivered. Aggregate and synthesize real estate debt capital markets activity to clearly summarize core trends and activity. Provide market expertise and insights to clients and internal team members on the debt capital markets. This includes engagement with prospects and presenting thought leadership with recognized industry organizations. Build close partnerships with client stakeholders who are actively in the market wherein Chatham can share insights on the trends our Research team has observed and to gather feedback from clients on the trends and activity they are observing in the market. Leadthe report production process for research publications. This includes collecting data, processing data, synthesizing unique market insights, summarizing written commentary, and facilitating report distribution externally. Close collaboration with the broader Investment Management team as well as Chatham's marketing team is essential throughout the process. Apply understanding of the mechanics of valuations to respond to client questions related to debt capital market trends and market financing. Valuation expertise is important to understand how this research is used by stakeholders at Chatham as well as by clients in the market. Present research insights as a market expert. Oftentimes these presentations may be delivered to internal teams at Chatham as well as to external groups such as clients, prospects, or industry organizations. Serve as a team lead for members of the Research team. This includes providing constructive feedback, recognizing achievements, facilitating strong lines of communication, and fostering a team culture that encourages growth, excellence, and professional development. Contributors to your success: Expertise in valuation, debt capital markets or consulting services. Minimum of 8 years of experience in a real estate debt capital markets-related role. A degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or Real Estate and/or an equivalent certificate. The ability to analyze data and communicate insights to senior clients and Chatham stakeholders. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to conduct detailed financial analysis and modeling. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to create and maintain complex financial models, analyze data and present insights. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex ideas and information to clients, team members, and other stakeholders. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to review and extract information from various types of real estate source documents. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage resources effectively. Knowledge of real estate markets and industry trends, and a willingness to stay up to date with changes and developments in the field. Professional certifications such as CFA or CPA are a plus.
