This Position is for a Software Engineer III with a remote work location in Stennis Space Center, MS.

Looking for a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineer III to join this dynamic team. As a Software Engineer III, you will play a pivotal role in designing, coding, testing, and debugging software components, units, and modules that align with product specifications and development schedules. The ideal candidate will bring comprehensive knowledge of platforms, operating systems, programming languages, and experience with scientific software development and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities:

Software Development:

Design and code software components, units, and modules to meet product specifications and development schedules.

Participate in large system and subsystem planning to ensure efficient and effective software development.

Testing and Debugging:

Test and debug assigned components and units to ensure high-quality software deliverables.

Adhere to product build and release schedules and strategies.

Technical Leadership:

Act as a technical resource for lower-level developers, providing guidance and support.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful software development.

Technological Expertise:

Bring expertise in distributed and cloud technologies, CI/CD, containers, object store, graph databases, and automated testing.

Stay abreast of new software build and development technologies.

Scientific Software Development:

Provide scientific software development support, guiding software developers throughout NCEI.

Support scientific projects to ensure optimal utilization of technologies adopted by NCEI.

Documentation and SOPs:

Document and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP) for the NCEI software development processes.

Ensure compliance with established development processes and standards.

Training and Workshops:

Provide two training/workshops per year to guide NCEI developers through the adoption of new technologies and tools.

Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the software development team.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) or equivalent in a related field.

4 to 6 years of experience in software engineering or a related field.

Comprehensive knowledge of one or more platforms, operating systems, and programming languages.

Experience with scientific software development and emerging technologies.

Skills and Competencies:

Proficiency in designing, coding, testing, and debugging software components.

Familiarity with distributed and cloud technologies, CI/CD, containers, object store, graph databases, and automated testing.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
