Amazon MFG Engineer - Mechanical Assy, Manufacturing Engineering, Project Kuiper in Kirkland, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

This is a broad scoped position providing manufacturing engineering ownership of multiple mechanisms and assemblies for the project Kuiper satellite program. You will be supporting new satellite mechanisms early in the design phase, providing critical design for manufacturability input and supporting testing of these assemblies, while developing and implementing the plan to move from design/test into build/production.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design space hardware production processes and production lines

  • Experience with equipment design, procurement, installation, and qualification

  • Work with supply chain partners to manage critical vendors

  • Material flow planning and manufacturing process definition with minimal existing definition

  • Ability to support space hardware testing, including tooling design and data analysis

  • Assembly, Integration, and Test takt time & cost optimization planning

  • DFM review and sign off for design release

Export Control Requirement:

A day in the life

This role will require a thorough understanding of mechanical systems and spacecraft manufacturing processes. You will own test campaigns to validate manufacturing processes for robustness, yield, and reliability scenarios. Transitioning into a production environment, you will strive to produce assemblies for the lowest possible cost and highest possible quality. You will work with thermal and dynamic analysts, design engineering, and tooling and automation engineering to meet these objectives.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience

  • Experience with prototyping and implementation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools

  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
