A.T. Still University MOSDOH - Assistant Professor Dental Faculty - Public Health in Kirksville, Missouri

A.T. Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) is seeking an exempt Assistant Professor of Public Health. The position reports to the dean, professor of periodontics; the vice dean of clinical affairs/advanced dental education and professor; and the senior associate dean of academic affairs and professor. This grant-supported faculty member is key for developing curricula, teaching and assessing students, nurturing interprofessional training relationships, managing the logistics of dental educator module and training center development, synchronizing course director audits/enhancements, participating in formative/summative evaluation, and supporting project outcomes dissemination via article creation and presentations.

The position includes keeping the ATSU-MOSDOH leadership informed of public health policies affecting oral health, liaising with local, state, regional and national stakeholders regarding oral health concerns and their impact, advocating for equity and access to oral healthcare for Missourians, supporting community outreach dental programs and dialoguing with representatives from the Missouri Dental Association, the Missouri Coalition for Oral Health, the Dental Director of Missouri and other dentally related organizations that support and promote access to oral healthcare and the dental profession.

Major Job Duties

  • Co-developing curricular infusions/enhancements and evaluation tools and supporting content delivery and modification.

  • Facilitating learning activities and student assessment.

  • Assisting in recruiting MOSDOH applicants/Hometown Scholars (HTS).

  • Supporting career mentoring for students and professional development for educators.

  • Assisting project leaders with HRSA project evaluation and outcomes dissemination (national/regional presentations and submission of articles to peer-reviewed journals, etc.).

  • Engaging in community outreach programs to promote oral health literacy and access to oral healthcare.

  • Teaching and mentoring students of the value of community service relevant to disadvantaged populations.

  • Serving as the public health dentist for ATSU-MOSDOH - Kirksville and Saint Louis.

Job Responsibilities

  • This individual will be a team player filling a significant role in predoctoral training infusions and enhancements.

  • Facilitating student learning through regular interaction with the students.

  • Developing and leading content expert discussions.

  • Grading and providing feedback for assignments.

  • Communicating any student concerns to the department chair.

  • Serving on departmental, school, and university committees as assigned.

  • Professional scholarship and service as appropriate.

  • Other duties as assigned by the department chair, dean, or other institutional administrators.

  • No more than 20% time split for clinical work.

Skills/Requirements

  • DMD or DDS with MPH training

  • 2+ years prior experience in educational administration/curricular development, public health, and working with underserved populations in medically underserved communities.

  • Preferred Qualifications: Prior service in the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) a plus.

  • Teaching in a higher education/distance education environment (minimum of 2 years).

  • Five years experience in dental public health preferred.

  • Preferred: Board Certified - Diplomat of the American Board of Dental Public Health

  • Highly skilled in using educational technology, such as course delivery systems (Blackboard, Canvas other).

  • Highly skilled in positively interacting with students at a post-graduate level.

  • Skilled in the development and implementation of instructional media for teaching courses.

  • Computer skills, Excel, Word.

  • Consensus building.

  • Grant/project management.

  • Leadership.

  • Ethics.

  • Program planning.

  • Candidate must be student-centered and able to work with a multitude of different writing levels and personalities.

Preferred location for candidate is the St. Louis or Kirksville, Missouri area as this position liaises with MOSDOH.
