This Position is an Intern position with a NTE date of 8 September 2025 The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee who has been appointed to the Pathways Internship Program with on-the-job training and guidance to further student technical development. Responsibilities Performs selected tasks and phases of studies and projects that require application of basic theory and principles in the area of engineering. Participates with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects. Provides assistance to senior personnel in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives. Uses computer/computer software such as information management programs, computer aided design and drafting (CADD) programs, and project tracking programs to assist senior personnel in solving engineering problems and facilitate the work. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Competitive Service Student Trainee Positions. PLEASE NOTE: This is not a developmental opportunity, this position may be filled at the GS-04 level. To qualify for a GS-04: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree is required. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. Recommended Areas of Study: Seeking a professional engineering degree. The curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Professional knowledge of the basic theories, concepts, principles, and methodology of engineering. Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices sufficient to perform student trainee assignments. Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format. Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions. Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject-matter field. Ability to gather and analyze basic facts, information, and data, and draw conclusions. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
